LOL, your god sure has evolved since his book was written.
you know how i feel about that...it's a book...thats it. some right, some wrong...whatever. if he was like that, he'd have flushed this toilet long ago and started over....again.
naaaa...you know how i believe god is bro...he's like jeff spicoli....hanging out and just watching it all unfold....every once in awhile he may get involved and if so, it's usually on a small scale...like having a self confessed "athiest" help a pregnant chick out on the side of the road...shyt like that there. face it bro...i'm sure, by your actions, you set a fine example for someone to live. an excellent sheppard...even with your bullshyt santa clause analogies and all that other horseshyt that i'm sure make god laff at you, your alright in his book.
HE WHO MAKES A BEAST OF HIMSELF, GET'S RID OF THE PAIN OF BEING A MAN!!
No, not my definition but my explanation and examples for what causes compassion.
okay, enlighten me some more please sir. What causes the feeling of compassion for a puppy that's in no danger or immediate threat at all? A puppy that's in a bigger, better, nicer, healthier environment than I/you/the compassionate one could offer?

That is interesting. I would think there is something the compassionate one does believe he could offer the puppy, that the puppy is not currently receiving, even though the puppy is in a more luxurious environment. Even if it is just a better owner; it could be the compassionate one has some slight resentment towards the current owner for a characteristic he thinks will affect the puppy adversely. I don't' know but there is some perceived threat, even if it very subtle; otherwise there would be no compassion.

So your saying even though the bible has no credibility; you still think there are parts worth believing? Even if it is just the Biblical designation of god that you adhere to - Jesus. Everything else can be re-written?

dude...even in a starwars novel there is such a thing as the fukin stars, right? there's some truth to everything. to me, the bible is a book written of truth's, half truth's and bullshyt to conveigh a message. the message of, dont be a dic....thats it bro. you put too much weight in the bible klash. you really need to step outside the box and look around...wise up a little, will ya? dont be so fuggin nieve, jeez.... gods a good dude...he aint all doom and gloom. he aint all bossy and shyt....just becouse you've been subjected to individuals that were a little over zelous in their interpitation of the bible dont mean they were right. i am. you just keep being the good sheppard and he'll look past all your "athiest" silliness....("atheist"...like there is such a thing, lol your silly)

Let's just say for sake of argument that there is a god and that god is the god of the Bible. I am for sure going to hell; there is no going back for me.
It would be like your kid asking you to believe in Santa Clause but not only could you not "believe" in Santa Clause if he existed you'd rather kill him than serve him. Then your where I am in regards to the Christian god.
God will forgive you dude

FUZO said it Bro- God forgives you of your sins- he washes you pure as snow. He understands we're not perfect, but we must ackowledge our short coming and ask for forgiveness

By definition, it does take a negative feeling to bring compassion to the forefront, I don't think the negative is needed for compassion, but I concede by definition. I'm not going to redefine compassion.
Now, if you did the same with selfless. You have most definitely acted selflessly with the lady and the flat tire.
Just trim the spin and bs, and you have selfless clearly defined.
most of what we believe about God came to us when we were very young children and easily molded. Lets take the most christian person on this board and say they were born and raised in pakistan instead. I guarantee you they would be worshipping muhhamad and practicing islam!!! because thats what they would be indoctrinated with as children. Youd be programmed with a different story and a different God!!!...So I guess the people who live here and got to be taught about Jesus since childhood, well, we just got lucky. Those kids in China and India got a bum deal and they are all going to hell unless we send missionaries over there to teach them about the bible

I agree. So now we have a Christian god that pre-destines souls to hell; even if it is just statistically more probable for one person to go to heaven over another there is a degree of favoritism and pre-destiny.

I'm not redefining selflessness. I'm using it more precisely. Let's go with the definition "the unselfish concern for others". How can I be unselfish towards others, if others are of selfish concern to me, that is not unselfish; for me to have unselfish concern for others I would have to place the value of others over other higher values of mine.
I'm not spinning, it's not b.s. it's just a completely different perspective than what society conditions us with.
I didn't give something of myself. I held myself to my own standards, my own morals, my own values - I was myself. I had integrity and lived by my own value system, which includes valuing other people.
To be selfless, I would have said to myself, "I know I value other people and I hate seeing people in distress but even though I could do something that would take less than 15 minutes to help this person, I'm going to choose to ignore my own higher values and decide to go home and watch t.v.
SO KLASH TELL ME AGAIN WHY YOUR A ATHIEST AND DONT BELEIVE IN GOD

The reason I don't believe in a god, is the same reason you don't believe in Zeus, Allah or Apollo; I just apply that same logic to all gods. What led me to atheism was a long persistent journey of seeking the objective truth about reality and you can't discover truth as long as you submit to faith. If you could there would be more consensus on the character of god but people's beliefs in the character of god implies they are taking their own moral code and imagining that they are consistent with god's moral code.

I got:
un⋅self⋅ish /ʌnˈsɛlfɪʃ/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [uhn-sel-fish] Show IPA
–adjective not selfish; disinterested; generous; altruistic.
but I know your gears are constantly turning. And from my point of view, they're turning in the right direction. I think you rationally place things, feelings, important attributes of life where you want them to be, based on something that drives you to do that. I don't know, and I'm not inquiring. I've been told I do that by means of being descriptive. Very explanatory when "not needed", and it takes up time. I feel it's valid information, and it is, but obviously, most folks don't require so much info. Not many people have told me this. Just my father actually, which he's the same way. I think I picked up my feeeling of the need to exaplin myself early in life. Maybe you picked up a feeling of the need to rationally place traits, interests, meanings, from someone, or from some people, early on as well. You do a good job with it.
