Your not the same as the nut ball but you advocate the same process of obtaining knowledge - faith. You can say that your god isn't based on faith but if I ask you to provide evidence of him - you couldn't, thus he's not based on reasoning which is based in reality. Your imaginary friend's moral code may be closer to a more rational code of ethics than the nut ball's imaginary friend but it is only by coincidence, not by process. Moderate faith creates an environment where extreme faith can exist.

If your idea of god didn't provide you with the idea of afterlife, justice, companionship, etc., i.e. when you died that was it and he didn't intervene in your life. Would you still believe in him?

According to Muslims and Jews, Jesus was only a prophet. When you subscribe to faith, there is no way to reason with someone. I could say Jesus was a zombie or a sorcerer. In the context of a story that has magic, miracles, people rising from the dead, etc.; whose to say my faithful, mystical story is wrong. Faith by definition states you cannot prove to me your beliefs are right. So we resort to living in a society where everyone believes whatever they want, whether it is rational or not.

I agree and for sake of argument giving Christians the hypothetical that their god exists implies god has created souls pre-destine for hell. Real merciful.

O.k. so your proof of your god. Following that logic, Muslim's are proof of Allah. Jews are proof of their god. Thomas Jefferson is proof of a deist god. Wiccan's are proof of their god. Who's right? We are not proof of god. We are proof we exist; we are not proof that a god exists. This argument relies on accepting the premise that nothing can exist without a creator. Where did your god come from? Did another even more all powerful god create him? and if so who created that god? and if that happened what are their names? What do they approve of? Do they have the same moral code as the god they created? or is your god just as confused about morality and his god as you are about morality and your god? See religious people not only believe in god but they believe in the revelation of their god or they would be deists. So why haven't any of these other higher up gods revealed themselves?

See you believe he intervenes in your life and you believe in an afterlife, that doesn't mean it's real. These things are what attract people to believing in a god. That's why I asked the question. If you took everything that attracted you to a belief in god away (afterlife, omniscient justice, companionship, intervention, etc.); would you still think there is one? If you were honest, you probably wouldn't care. Your not getting anything in return for your belief. Yet, there is no evidence of any of these things, people believe them because they want to.

i actually believe its all just the same 1 dude....all are just worshiping the positive...god...1 dude. they all have different belief's becouse different MEN wrote different books...but it was all the same dude that inspired those books.

as far as how god came to exist...i dont know...i dont really think i need to know. i dont really care, and 1 day, i may know. i also dont know why blue is "blue" and not "12". i dont know why water is wet and i still dont know where my fukin socks disappear to in the drier!! how about the platapus...can you fukin explain that thing? why do dogs bark and not meow and why the fuk dont kangaroo's fart?...these are the mysteries of life bro...i dont know these things and i dont have to for them to be.

It's the same dude that commanded the slaughter of women and children of Jericho that preaches pacifism to the hindus. The same dude that promises to torment unrepentant souls in the lake of fire is the same dude that says incarnation is educational and advancing the soul and failing just means taking the course over. These are huge contradicting character traits. If you were describing a friend of yours to another person and you described him as very open minded and the other guy said, the guy I'm thinking of is a bigot; you wouldn't come to the conclusion you were talking about the same guy.

Hell, man the god of the old testament and the god of the new testament don't even have similarities. I don't see any correlation between the various human god's other than the desire for man to have afterlife is so strong that he will find any god that correlates with his morality so he can believe in it.

Blue is blue; we can call it 12 but the color remains the same. Same with water, we can call it wet, dry or whatever but the result is the same only the words change. Reality exists how we refer to it is semantics but it exists. What is god, is he blue, wet, omnipotent, etc? You cannot describe god without resorting to your imagination and there will never be a consensus because he doesn't exist. You may have built your god from stories of the Bible but you don't seem to live by the Bible but I don't think many Christians live by the Bible. They call themselves Christians because it's socially acceptable but then they treat it as some buffet table where they can live by what they agree with and discard the rest but is this a Christian. I mean, Christians run the gamut now days but you either give the Bible authority as the word of god or you don't, which implies you don't think it is the word of god. If you can pick and choose what you live by in the Bible then you obviously don't think it is "the word of god". If you don't think it's the word of god, then I think it's time to reconsider whether your actually a Christian or not.

It's just my opinion but I think we are seeing the beginning of the end of religion. More and more people are referring to themselves as spiritual but without the religious to mainstream the idea of faith, the "spiritual" will be more easily persuaded with logic. Obviously religion won't die completely but I don't see how religion (in it's current form) and the information age can co-exist. One will die for the other to continue and I don't think religion has the power to suppress information on that kind of scale; so IMO religion has had it's day. I mean Christianity is doing good if it's followers agree on anything outside the idea that Jesus was the son of god and it's just a matter of time before that is questioned. Look at the first generation that was raised on the internet; their beliefs do not show the kind of resistence to opposing ideas as the generation of my grandparents. They hold on to their beliefs by a string, because someone like me (someone rational) hasn't shown them an alternative to faith but the number of people like me are growing - because of the internet. How many people like me do you think it will take before the negative connotation associated with atheism is reversed? I think many Christians already see it coming.

As a reference, look at the term libertarian. How many times did you hear the term libertarian before 2000? Hardly ever but you hear it regularly on talk shows now. People take pride in proclaiming to be libertarians? Now, granted some of it is because of it's growing popularity but that popularity is because libertarians dominate political debates because of their logical positions. The Libertarian party is a result of Objectivism, the philosophy that promotes adhering to logic, which i do. Obviously, it will take some time for a major philosophical shift but it is happening; hell, I might even see it before I die.

can all you work on getting people in power of this country that will give us our freedoms back and do things the right way? can you all work on that? i know the god thing and breaking people's belief's is very, very important to you all, but can you focus on this one little thing first, then we can overthrow god.
