Cannot fathom how an instructor puts a black belt on people like this. Shows money is sole motivation behind the teaching. My dojo has been open almost 16 years and we have promoted 5 people to black belt. Total disservice to the student to instill the belief they actually have black belt level skill with form like this. That instructor should hang his head in shame. I'd love to put my orange and blue belts up against these "black" belts.
I never seen a fat blackbelt she or he was forgetting most of the forms, I bet those knuckles are hurting. That American tae kwondo they teach kids is a joke good way to get your ass kicked or killed on the street.
Leaders did what others weren't willing to do, now they enjoy the things that others do not.
In a lot of places now Martial Arts Centers are like bowling clubs or softball leagues. These people are not warriors and never will be. I understand it from a business standpoint but not from a point of integrity on behalf of the instructor.
"You don't know how strong you are until strong is your only option."
8 years and i am still a blue belt in BJJ. i doubt i will ever get a black belt. just not good enough and my coach will not promote unless a person exhibits perfectly the qualities and skills necessary for the rank as that person represents him.
most martial arts places it is more about how long you have been paying dues.
that lady would think she could defend herself as she is a blackbelt and dammit she could not.
i realize rank does not mean one is the best in a camp and can beat up everybody. there are tons of lower ranked guys who just have more physical gifts which makes them faster and stronger than a higher ranked person. i have great respect for those who attain rank from a legitimate coach and have earned that rank through blood sweat and tears. and if you are not doing all 3 of those? well maybe you have not really earned it

As said earlier you pay with blood, sweat and tears. As I tell my students, their monthly fees keep the rent paid, the lights on and the heat on. I don't make money in my pocket from the $85 they pay. I teach because my Sensei taught me out of his love of the art and I do the same which is why it doesn't matter to me wether it takes them 5 years or 15 years to make the level of black belt. Or if they never put forth the work to achieve that rank. I'll never put a black belt around the waist of anyone who doesn't earn it or deserve it.
