Re: Radar Detectors
I had one when I was lead footed kid booting in my T-Bird. I remember being told that police had radar detector detector's like IRON-GAME said even back then. This was back in the early 2000's and I am sure they come a long way and if you want to pay the price for the tech you can probably get something wicked. But for me my instincts work much better.

Re: Radar Detectors
the passport and escort brand have been around for ever.. I stopped using them years ago bc where I live a lot of LE went to laser and you cant detect them until them turn them on and by then your caught.. the old radars they just to leave on so your detector would go off but I guess the lasers they can just flip on yes your detector will go off but your caught by then..
I just don't go over 10mph and have been pretty good with that.. I get pulled over more for my dark window tinting on my truck then speeding....

Re: Radar Detectors
I have an Escort Passport 9500 IX radar/laser detector that my stepsons bought me for Christmas a few years ago and I only wish I had been smart enough to buy one sooner. I was on 100% travel for 7 years and racked up a few tickets during that time. In the 3 or 4 years of having the detector installed I have only received one ticket, and that was from a laser. Most probably know if you get hit with a laser it's over. lol. Funny story on that one. The cop walked up to my passenger side and the first words out of his mouth were "how'd that thing do for you?" I laughed and said, well it did let me know I was busted by a laser. lol. He said most of the cops nowadays use lasers in that state because they're more accurate, but I had only had it go off one time ever for laser prior to that, so not sure how true that was. I have had it go off for radar pretty much every time I pass a police on the highway. Anymore I just try to do the speed limit or 5 mph over on the highways. I still keep the detector plugged to be safe, but I prefer to keep my speed in check to not take any chances.Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Re: Radar Detectors
I want to add one more thing to my last post. If considering a radar/laser detector I highly recommend the Escort Passport for one specific feature that I love. It has GPS and preprogrammed speed traps, red light cameras, etc. Also, once it picks up the same radar 3 times in a row it saves it and doesn't go off anymore. This is meant for things like doors at gas stations and stores, that tend to set the radar detector off every time you pass them. Mine has already stored all of them on my regular routes so that I don't have to worry as much about false alerts. Another cool feature is that I can add a speed trap if I know of one, and it will load it to the GPS location that I enter it at when driving. I can also plug it into my computer and download the latest updates from their website.Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. They use a hell of a lot of radar in this state. I see them pointing the radar gun all the time. I dont know what else they use but I see radar guns all the time. I dont know if have a detector will give me a false sense of security and I will end up getting tickets or else it will save me from ever getting a ticket. I think it might be worth the investment.
I know a state trrooper and Im going to ask him next time I run into him what they use

Re: Radar Detectors
I have the Escort Redline and love it. I can't tell you how many times it has saved my ass. Not really even realizing I'm speeding until it goes off, I check and realize I'm going about 8 over and slow down just in time to pass the cop car on the side of the road. If there aren't any buildings around, I've had it pick up radar a mile or so away. It scans for K band, KA band and X Band. It also detects laser, but as already mentioned if you're speeding when the laser alert goes off, you just confirmed you're probably getting a ticket lol. It's also supposed to include technology rendering it undetectable. Well worth the price in my opinion though. It's paid for itself several times over.

Re: Radar Detectors
i won one in a football pot. it is really good as long as people are speeding in front of you. cops are really good at only using them on cars that they KNOW are speeding. I have been in the car with a cop radar/ laser (do not know which)
but he would wait and wait until became impatient to use it. then he would see someone going way over and pop em. if they had a detector it would have done them no good.
not to say there are not a bunch of cops who do not use them frequently enough to be detected. I want one on my motorcycle. it is hard not to speed on it. 35 mph in first gear seems so slow.
if you get one, get a good one. they have a much longer range and will give you the best chance
