  • How safe is it to grill food?

I stood there at Home Depot today trying to decide between 3 differnt grills: Electric, Gas or Charcoal. I decided to wait and do some reading. Then I ask this ex girlfriend, she says "Grilling causes cancer. You shouldnt buy one"...lol...But seriously, whats the scoop? We need to know how strong is the link between grilling food and cancer? Is it meat? Or is it anything grilled? I would love to be able to grill veggies but shit no if its not healthy in the long run...
What are your thoughts on this topic?
Yes, I know, someone will say screw it everything causes cancer so stop being paranoid lol

I just bought a new grill.. I got a smoker, gas and charcoal grill. I love bbq.. if I start to grow a third leg i'll be out side grilling something talking about how the leg sucks but try this roast..lol.
if the ex wont eat the bbq just more for you. all you hear is how bad everything is for you from the air we breath to the food we eat and some jerk off telling us how where gonna die if we don't change..

hahahaha. well.. gonna die anyway. eat well, play hard, love all.... regret none

i dont buy off on half the shit they say causes cancer. being outside causes cancer because of the sun and the air. blah blah blah. i grill 90% of my food year round i lay in a tanning bed a few month out of the year. we live on the beach also so i get pretty beat up by the sun. my take on cancer is this: if you are predisposed to getting cancer then you are going to get cancer regardless of what you do. should you try to avoid everything under the sun to prevent it, fuck no because you are going to get it most likely at some point anyway. moderation and being healthy goes a long way towards preventing it but i have in laws that have died from lung cancer that never smoked a day in their lives nor been around it and i have known people that lived a super healthy lifestyle and did tons of cadio drop dead from heart attacks. so i say if their is a small link between grilling and cancer i say grill it up because it is going to be much healthier than many other options are.

I say keep grilling! I uses a gas grill but really like a smokey flavor! It is nearly impossible to escape things that cause cancer. If you do by gas, you can buy seasoned briquets or planks for added flavor, but I am sure those cause cancer too...UGH! lol

there may be carcinogens in grilled meat but one can mitigate that by marinating the meat, not letting the flame scorch (not the same as a sear) grill for less time (a nice rare steak)

Just grill, the pros outweigh the cons. cooking with a teflon pan, eating processed meats like bratwurst or bologna, and propylene glycol which is in so many foods. it is used to make polyester for clothes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

get your grill, enjoy it. if you worried about every potential carcinogen you would have to live in a bubble of filtered air and starve to death

Re: How safe is it to grill food?

lol...Thanks for the answers ...I have used a george foreman grill forever, I guess I never considered that real grillling
Ok, so I read that elect5ric grills dont have the firepower and not worth it...so now its propane vs charcoal. The propane seems to be easier with less of a mess. I can get a cheap charcoal grill for $39 or $120 for the propane grill...what would you all do? Hell, maybe I will buy both lol

You can get a grill with both, all-in-one but I bet you'll never want to wait for that dam charcoal to be ready. Also takes lots of practice to get even heat with charcoal. We grill 95% of our meat have for over 30 years, healthier than ever.

You think propane is better than charcoal? I would hate to wait for charcoals to heat and have never done it before.

                      I spent 1800 on a pellet smoker.. OUCH !!! what can I say , I'm a sucker for a quality cook out

if you go gas make sure the steel underside is solid construction or replaceable. a lot of gas grills ive seen rot out there with in a year or two.

my charcoal grill is the barrel type 100 bucks with heavy duty grates. worked for years but the wood handle and shelve rotted long ago. charbroil model.

I might just take my george foreman grill outside with an extension cord and invite everyone over for a barbecue!

i think charcoal is better for grilling. food taste better. i use propane, because it is just easy and quick and you can get great results.
