I was out on my kayak yesterday, it was hot and sunny. My feet were in to cool water, I had caught a couple of bass. Life was good....................until I came upon this flooded willow tree. (lake is up 4-5 feet) I grabbed a branch to keep from drifting and I hear a buzzing.
An squadron of yellow and black death came swarming out of the tree. PAPER WASPS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I back paddled furiously but they followed me relentlessly. The tenacious little beasts swooped and struck. YIKES! my back, then my arm, then my foot..............OWWWWW SHIT!!!!!!!!! I was about to bail out and dive in the water when WHAM! right on my LIP! felt like a heavy weight punch but hurt 10 X worse.
OK, the others hurt bad but when a wasp stings you on your lip...........well it is a new kind of hell. I continued back paddling, the wasps finally relented, I saw they had a few casualties. there were several in the water not moving or struggling. (there was one in the bottom of my kayak, he died at the butt of a falcon rod)
This is when the curses flowed out of me like Niagara Falls during the rainy months. What else was I to do. It hurt. Worse part was I was a mile from my put in. I paddled back, I thought about fishing but I was worried I would have some reaction to the venom. I was a bit dizzy but I could breathe.
Anyway took 4-5 hours for the pain to subside. The stings to the body were not too bad, they looked like bad mosquito bites but poor lip.
It swole up so big it looked like an over inflated innertube.
This morning it is still 20% bigger than it should be and it is numb and sore at the same time if that makes sense.
