  • Do you buy extended warrantees on stuff?

Was at Sears today, about to buy a lawnmower. After talking to the salesman, one on one for a half hour, he starts telling me about the optional extended waranty. Then another salesman comes over with the paperwork about it and they start teaming up on me. $450 for 3 years and $750 for 5 years. Telling me they will come to my house and fix it if something goes wrong, etc etc.

Im going back tomorrow to get that mower and will tell them no thanks and save $450. I smell a scam. What do you think?

Do the salesmen get a big commission off of those?

Way overpriced. That is how the salesman make the majority of their money. By selling add ons. That is a crazy price you could prob get it for less than half. I would pass too bro

Yep. I just did a little online research of the extended warranty business and it is a complete scam. Whether its at Bestbuy, Walmart, Kmart. If someone tries to sell you a warranty on something, tell them hell no. I can already see the devastation on his face when I tell him I dont want a warranty, lol

Its a big riding mower. Its one step below a tractor. I shopped around and looked at everything. This is the most bang for the buck. I have looked at used ones on craigslist, trying to save money, and I finally have decided to just buy a new one. They are giving me 18 months with no interest to pay it off. I need it desperately

I agree with the others.. those warranties are a scam.. I would ask them damn how bad is this mower If I need to buy a warranty..

I got a big zero turn back in 1999 and haven't done a lot at all to it.. buy the right product for the job and you will be set..

for that kinda of money I would pass.. can you do things like maintance on your own?

No doubt. Yes, theres a lawnmower shop a few minutes away and the guy fixes anything for $20.
but I can do the maintenance and buy one of those lawn mower jacks and do the regular stuff. Everything is on youtube these days.

I never get the extended warranty when I buy anything. Just always seemed like a scam and waste of money to me.

I generally do not. Occasionally I will however if the product is for one of my kids....it's a pretty sure hit that they will break sumpin...lol. Example. My oldest tired cleaning his laptop with a wet rag, fried it, sent it out and got repaired at no cost.

never on a mower or a car. mowers will last decades. I bought a mower in 1984 the deck broke a few years ago and there were no replacements but it ran perfectly.

biggest prob with lawn mowers is trash in the carb (normally from dirty gas or clogged air filter) or not changing the oil.

take careo f it and a warranty will be a waste of $$$
