What does it mean when they say hospice has been called in?

She was one of my best friends. She worked for me for many years. I havent talked to her in a couple years since she went to california to be with her kids after being diagnosed w cancer. One of the most health minded people I know. Personal trainer. When she was first diagnosed, she lost all her hair and wore a wig and continued to traIn clients and never told a sole about her diagnosis. She is a very private person and doesnt talk to many people outside her family but I heard that hospice has been called in this week. What does that mean? Im kind of afraid it means there is no more hope for survival. Very sad.

She must have really took a turn for the worse. I saw her a couple years ago when she told me and I was shocked. Was breast cancer and then to her lungs. She contemplated a double mastectomy and decided not to. I have her cell #. Not sure if I should send her a text. Last I texted was on mothers day, I said happy mothers day and we texted a little bit. Its weird when its someone who you were real close to at one time.

I'm sorry to hear about ur freind dzone but hospice is a agency that helps people pass at home and keeps them pain free the helped all my grandparents and uncle I'll keep her in my prayers

Hospice means they have stopped all medical treatment based on the progression of their health. They are then at a stage where they are given anything needed to keep them as comfortable and pain free as possible as well as help the family prepare for things. When I worked at the Cancer Center, I occasionally saw patients go in to Hospice and come out of it but that was not often

I would assume she probably has mets to the brain, bone etc. What I learned when I worked in oncology was that primary breast ca usually moves up when it becomes metastatic. Very sad, and the younger a woman is diagnosed with it, the chances of it being a more aggressive type are even higher.

If I where yu I'd text or call her. If shes in the mod she'll talk. I remember when my gma got the cancer and things went down hill. It was like she was a leper, nobody ever came by or called except her kids. Think she would of enjoyed feeling normal with her friends even just a little.

My best friend's brother had cancer back when we were just out of high school. He lived for about 2 years with it, and one year of that was after having his leg amputated which they thought might save him but sadly the cancer came back in his lungs. He had Hospice care for maybe a few weeks, or perhaps over a month, it's been so long I can't remember, but they didn't stay at the house around the clock, just came at certain times or if called. I recall them coming the last few days before he passed, which about 3 days before he all the sudden got up and was handing out downstairs and moving around full of energy and feeling good but that only lasted for one day. They told us that is a bad sign that is common with cancer patients, where they seem to be well for a day and then it's over shortly after, which in his case was about 3 days later. I hope your friend is not at that stage and more so I hope she recovers. It's a terrible thing to happen to anyone and it was tough for me watching my friend's brother pass. I actually lived with them during that period so I saw him go through all the stages at the end and it was sad as heck. Best wishes to your friend, hope she pulls though somehow.

Sorry to hear that. Hospice more often then not is a unit it the hospital that deals with patients thatbhave little to no chance to recover and ensure their remaining time is managed correctly. Thar being said, people can be in hospice for years.

One of the best friends I've ever had died on Monday. I was very fortunate to work with her every day for many years. I will always cherish the hours and hours we spent just talking about life. Simple every day things were always more fun with her around. I was always learning from her and always sought out her advice on any decision I had to make. Her insight into life situations was an absolute gift. She had an energy and vibe like nobody else. She was a one of a kind. She impacted so many people in the most positive way. She was truly beloved. She really understood how important it was to make the most of every precious second. She didnt just talk about, she lived it. She walked the walk 365 days a year. I encouraged her to pursue a career in personal training because I knew she had a gift for inspiring people. I knew she would be good at it, I had no idea she would be so successful that there would be a 2 month waiting list to become a new client. Simply, everybody wanted to be around her. She had that smile and charisma that made the world a better place.
She was just so much fun to be around. She never wanted any attention, it was always about everybody else. No surprise that there will be no memorial service. She wouldnt have wanted that. She was one of the finest people Ive ever known in my life.
I miss her so very much. My heart goes out to Mike and Crystal and Rich. I am just devastated over this.

I'm so sorry man. Good people often get the worst luck in life it seems. But from what you say it sounds like she had a full life and a loving woman. It sounds like she did many good things for others.

I'll pray for you and her family. If you need anything i'll be her brother.
