Don't get me wrong I hate that pf perpetuates the meat head stereotype and that the judgement free part is meant for fat people to not be judged by those of us who are serious but as a long term employee I am very familiar with the ins and ours of our policies so I like to play devils advocate. I also feel like complaining about it is like going to mcds and complaining that you can't get a steak. You know going into mcds what you are getting and joining pf you know going in what you are getting. You chose a cheap membership over going to a bb friendly gym. And if you didn't know pf wasn't bb friendly then I ask "what rock do you live under?" Watch the ads on YouTube and it's no mystery.

I understand all that but the problem is that the gyms in the area that they build the PF end up closing because they can't compete. There just is not enough people like us that really want to train.

this is exactly why if i had the dinero's i would invest in a planet fitness gym. its a genius business plan. the market for fit people is becoming more niche, so invest in the masses by making them feel welcomed, not judged, and feed them the food they love. i like their concept cuz it would make me some money.

One day I hope to open a powerlifting/bodybuilding gym. That has everything you want in it. All the gyms around here either have one thing you want or another, its hard to have a complete workout routine just having one gym membership here. Hence the reason I go to more than one.

I helped a buddy if mine open up a hardcore gym last summer. It's just 7000 sq ft including locker rooms. Tbar, supported tbar, 2 power racks a dead lift platform some smiths and one full circuit of strength and a multi jungle cable set up along with incline decline, flat barbell benches and DBS up to 140. Sadly he is fighting to reach the 200 members he needs to break even. He is an npc national competitor and an npc judge as well. As mentioned before it's tough to compete as a small private gym anymore. I almost bought a hardcore gym a decade ago before pf came in and I'm glad I didn't dump everything I had into it because these guys are struggling now. Luckily they have basketball courts and batting cages for something different to bring people in.

as bad as it saddens me to say it but planet fitness hasnt had a single franchise gym close down to date. normal people dont like people that are in shape or look like they are in shape that's just how it is. i will also say that if you want true judgement freedom then just give me your 120 bucks a year and i wont judge you for wasting your time and faking the funk. i dont grunt i dont drop weights i dont wear cut off shirts or tank tops. i stay covered up 99% of the time and keep my head phones in for the majority of the time i am in the gym. that's my being judgement free. if you dont want to see people that are in shape though then pick up some workout vids like p90x and pilates and do it in your own freaking house, then you can have pizza parties any time you would like

The really sad part about pizza night is that people actually ask if they can take pies home. We have also had people sit down with a shopping bag inside their gym bag and go take two slices and eat one and pack one and then repeat so they can bring some home.

We have also had people take the entire bowl of tootsie rolls into the locker and just sit there and eat them. We had another kid grab the bowl and just walk out with it. I guess times are tough out there.
