I remember when.....

I was a kid and things were different! I like to think back to times that were just more simple. Some things I remember are:


My Mom handing me cans of beer to run out to the garbage men on hot days,lol.

The fruit and vegetable truck coming down the alleyway to sell fruits and veggies

The knife sharpener man walking down the street wih his cart.

Opening up the fire hydrants on the corners on a hot summer day, just to play in the cold water

Playing ding dong ditch

Going door to door to sing Xmas carols

Going door to door asking peopl if we could shovel their snow and make some money

Leaving the house in the morning to go outside and play and coming back only for meal times

No cell phones and electronics to make us lazy


I remember so much more but would love to know some things you remember! Please share them

I USED TO RUN INTO THE GAS STATION TO BUY CIGARETTES FOR MY MOM WHEN I WAS ONLY 6, 7, 8, 9 YEARS OLD...

WE USED TO PLAY OUTSIDE ALL DAY AND ONLY COME HOME WHEN IT WAS DARK...

THERE WAS NO CELL PHONE, MY MOM DIDNT KNOW WHERE I WAS UNTIL I CAME HOME...

I HAD NO SEATBELTS IN MY CAR WHEN I WAS 16. MY DAD CUT THEM OUT BECAUSE THEY WERE IN THE WAY...

I HAD A NUDIE PICTURE BUSINESS WHEN I WAS IN THE 7TH GRADE. I WOULD BUY A HUSTLER MAGAZINE AT THE ZIPPY MART FOR $3.00 AND CUT PHOTOS OUT AND SELL THEM TO MY BUDDIES FOR A DOLLAR EACH. I MADE ABOUT $100 OFF EACH MAGAZINE!!

I REMEMBER RIDING MY BICYCLE ALL OVER TOWN - EVERYWHERE

I REMEMBER WHEN THERE WASNT A RUNNING TOTAL ON THE CASH REGISTER AT THE GROCERY STORE AND MY MOM HAVING TO PUT SOME THINGS BACK BECAUSE SHE DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY

YOU WERE EITHER IN OR OUT...NO SLAMMING THE SCREEN DOOR ON THE HOUSE.

IF YOU WERE HOT YOU DRANK OUT OF THE HOSE ON THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE.

Lol all that stuff is true no way now I let my kid leave in morning and come home at dark. Things have changed so much just in our lifetimes some good but to me most bad.

I remember getting up and I couldn't wait to go outside to play with my friends now I force my kids to go outside.

The biggest trill in life was seeing how close me and my brother could get to the bull in the neighbors field without making him mad.

I would get in trouble for not being outside and playing in a nice summer day.

I would work in the garden with my grandma and help her can vegetables in the summer.

I wanted my grandma to stop smoking so I would feed my pet goat her cigarettes and blame it all on the goat.

I remember babysitting my little sister at 8 years old and she was 4 while my mom grocery shopped.

I remember roofing with my uncles at 9. Mowing peoples lawns and washing their cars from a very early age.

I remember my TV was as big as my lap top now and got three channels. When we got a VCR finally we had three movies: mr mom, three amigos, and some cartoon.

Playing sports outside until my mom had to send the cavalry to come get me in!

I remember getting in fist fights at school and not being labeled a risk, bully, or any other victim label.

I took every girl i could behind the school to kiss them in my kindergarten year. Finally got caught and sent to principles office...guess what I wasn't labeled a sex addict!

Man I could keep going!

I REMEMBER SHOOTING MY BB GUN AT BIRDS AND WALKING ALL OVER THE NEIGHBORHOOD WITH IT. A GROUP OF US ALL WITH BB RIFLES. NOW THE COPS WOULD BE ON US SO FAST IT WOULDNT EVEN BE FUNNY

I REMEMBER TAKING ALL OF OUR LEFT OVER BB'S TO THE SKATING RINK AND DROPPING THEM ALL OVER THE FLOOR WHEN THE LIGHTS WOULD GO DOWN..THEN WE WOULD SIT BACK AND WATCH ALL OF THE CRASHES! PEOPLE FALLING ALL OVER THE PLACE AND WE WOULD JUST CRACK UP LAUGHING!

I ALSO REMEMBER MOM MAKING ME CUT OUR GRASS FOR NOTHING...BECAUSE I LIVED THERE. IF I WANTED TO MAKE MONEY I NEEDED TO CUT SOMEONE ELSES YARD!

Taking the train one or two towns over and feeling like we were so far away.

It's crazy how times have changed.

I remember before GPS when you had to follow a road map you bought from the gas station.

I remember pulling off the road to use the pay phone.

Getting our first VCR and thinking it was the most amazing thing that we could actually record TV shows.

The first time I heard the sound of dial up internet.

The signs at the video store that said "Be kind, please rewind" haha

Getting gas for .99 a gallon

55mph speed limit

Sticking a pencil in my cassette tape to wind the tape back in when the tape player chewed it up

Times were so different lol.

we played king of the hill on this vacant lot where there was a big pile of dirt and debris.

Halloween we would go inside stranger's houses to eat cookies and no one abducted us

oh man these are all so great! So much I forgot about. And the school lunches! Yes! The rice that tasted like paste! and the paste that tasted like paste! And the government blocks of cheese- yeah, my childhood had some government cheese in it. it was pretty good. And I remember my mom would tell me to go out and "pick my switch" off the tree. If you didn't pick one big enough she would go out and get a good one and really bust your ass with it.

and for the ladies...strawberry shortcake and friends. mmmmm they smelled so good

When the best barbeque was made in a pit with a sheet of roofing tin covering it, outside some shack by a black dude.
When an Italian Sub was an Italian Sub. Subway ? gimme a break, mankey a$$ed down sized portions like now ? Should be ashamed of yourselves !
Go Carts that weren't covered with bumbers and where actually fast.
No dumb s#it gangster kids with their pants around their knees and underwear hanging out.

When school lunches where homemade.

And how could ya forget going to the Drive In on Saturday night.
