  • Barack admits he lied.

So honestly, and cut all the bullshit. What has changed between now and when he campaigned about "change"???

In style and substance, Barack Obama is looking like he could be a different president than the candidate voters got to know during the campaign.

Barack Obama has taken on a more somber tone as he prepares to take office.

His message of changing the country has been replaced by one of repairing the country as he inherits crises that demand immediate action.
"I want to be realistic here," Obama said in an interview that aired Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "Not everything that we talked about during the campaign are we going to be able to do on the pace that we had hoped."
During the campaign, Obama stressed fixing the economy as one of his top priorities, but his recent language has taken on an urgent tone.

Obama painted a dire picture of the economy last week, warning that if Congress does not take "dramatic action" on his economic aid package as soon as possible, the nation would face devastating long-term consequences.

"For every day we wait or point fingers or drag our feet, more Americans will lose their jobs. More families will lose their savings. More dreams will be deferred and denied. And our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse," he said.

It's a far cry from what voters heard from Obama the Democratic candidate, who inspired roaring crowds of thousands by telling them, "This is our moment. This is our time."

But with the economy in a recession and people afraid for their financial future, Obama's soaring campaign rhetoric has given way to grim reality.
And as if the economic crisis weren't enough, Obama has an international crisis awaiting him as well. The president-elect said Sunday that the suffering on both sides of Gaza's borders has led him to ramp up his commitment to working for a peace deal in the Middle East.

These urgent items on Obama's agenda are forcing his team to reconsider some campaign pledges.

Just as soon as he went from presidential hopeful to president-elect, Obama warned the nation of tough times ahead and lowered expectations that he would be the one to solve it all.

"We know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime -- two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century," he said on the night of his election victory.

"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there," he said.

He told voters that change couldn't happen without them, "without a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice." He reiterated that same message this weekend, explaining what it's going to take to reform the government.

"Everybody is going to have to give. Everybody is going to have to have some skin in the game," Obama told ABC.

Some of the pledges Obama might have to rethink include his proposal to give some homeowners a 10 percent tax credit, an idea that has little support in Congress.

During the campaign, Obama also told voters, "I don't believe in running up debt for the next generation."

But just last week, he acknowledged that the cost of the economic recovery plan he is pushing would be "considerable" and would "certainly add to the budget deficit in the short term."

Obama has not put a price tag on his stimulus package, but observers have estimated it would cost in the neighborhood of $800 billion.
Obama also has proposed repealing the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy, but now it's more likely that the president-elect will delay any tax increases on the wealthy until 2011, when the tax cuts expire.

Some of the maneuvering is aimed at attracting Republican support for the incoming president's recovery plan, but that could set up an early battle in the now heavily Democratic Congress.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, for example, is adamant about seeing those tax cuts repealed.

Obama says everyone will have to sacrifice, and that includes Congress, too.

Some political observers say the economic crisis that Obama is inheriting is raising the stakes to get a move on his recovery plan -- even if Congress isn't 100 percent behind it.

"This strengthens Barack Obama's hand with the Congress and with the public. It's so urgent, that it's going to be very, very hard, I think, for people who don't like parts of this package to vote against it," said David Gergen, CNN's senior political analyst.

And while the public is well aware of the economic battle ahead, Republican strategist and CNN contributor Ed Rollins said Obama has little time to wait.

"You've got to have results," Rollins said, "He doesn't have four years to get it done. He has two years. If there's not improvements dramatically in two years, you have a midterm election, and certainly by the second part of this first term, this economy better be moving."

So far you haven't answered or acknowledged my question in two posts. I guess you aren't going to.

As usual trip is trying to sidestep a legit question. I agree with you stout, the guy promised additional taxation on the rich redistribution of wealth... now he never mentions any of this. He doesn't need to be "on the job" to realize he made promises and openly admits he will not be keeping them.

When you run for president you run your campaing on what you are going to do for the country....or at least that is what I thought. Obviously you think that once you "get on the job" you can change your campaign promises, but he got elected for one thing; change. Obviously he isn't going to bring that.

So let's take your "employee applying for a job analogy"...

I go to an employer I tell them how great I am, what I can do for the company, what I'm capable of, and all that smoke I blow up their ass then once I get hired low and behold I can't fulfill any of my promises. THAT'S OKAY TO DO?

"I want to be realistic here," Obama said in an interview that aired Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "Not everything that we talked about during the campaign are we going to be able to do on the pace that we had hoped."
^^^Obviously something HUGE must have happened from the two-four months of campaigning he was doing and now. I don't know what has changed, other then he isn't campaigning any more so he really doesn't owe us shit. He already got the majority vote so why should he stick to any of his campaign promises, if you want to call them that.

Just as soon as he went from presidential hopeful to president-elect, Obama warned the nation of tough times ahead and lowered expectations that he would be the one to solve it all.
^^NO shit, it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. He promised one thing, then when got elected showed his hand which didn't pan out to his campaign promises.

Thank you. Nothing in this country has changed from when he campaigned till now. We're talking a matter of months.

What is going on is called DAMAGE CONTROL. He obviously over committed himself in the election now he is trying to do DAMAGE CONTROL. He knows he can't fullfill this "YES WE CAN" b.s.

I think the only thing thats going to change is the face in the White House. The recovery projects that have or will be announced only have the working class taking it in the ass , while the people that don't worry about the questin "food or gas to go to work", get richer while we get by on little or nothing. The truly rich in this country only worry about themselves and how they can keep the masses ignorant about their methods of robbing us of our rights, dignity and freedom. When they give us a tax break in one place the raise taxes on something we don't see i.e. fuel , food and the like. Then they justify themselves and like a bunch of lemming we just follow their lead. I'll stop this rant here cuz it ain't doing nothing but pissin' me off . J.R.

This Jack Arse can barely change clothes- all he is going to do is drive us more in debt. You can't can't have tax cuts and increase spending- it just doesn't add up! I put a bet out there for you dumb Obama supporters- that he can't hold true to 50% of his promises he made during the campaign run- he is a full of crap and you stupid Liberals are fixing to find out the hard way!

                          Re: Barack admits he lied.

His speeches were just that..speeches. His rehetoric in the campaign was to preach what the masses wanted to hear. He basically followed the Clinton campaign strategy, take a poll, find what the people want to hear and make grandious speeches on it. Get the "zombies" fired up, then back track.
I think once he started the daily breifings, he found out just what was reallly happening inside and outside this country. Knowing what he is going to be up against, he has started backing up on his prominses and clearing a way for himself not to look bad in the public eye. Only thing is, all those that chose to vote for him will remember how he broke his "promise of change" during the next election.
Secondly, he has two inept people inplace in the Congress and Senate, ie: Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Watch how they will manipulate him to do their bidding. They will announce or leak that such and such bill has been introduced or voted on and the Obama will sign it into law. Once leaked, he will be backed into a corner to either vote with his party or or look like he is turning his back on them. Oh that will be very interesting to watch, an internal power struggle that should bring the party crashing down.
Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!

Take nothing I say as serious, What do I know, I sell water!!

This ia an absolutely retarded thread--I try to keep out of political discussions, but I can't help this one...

How can you seriously criticize the man when he hasn't even moved into the White House yet??? Are you kidding me?? And to expect one man to right the ship in six months of not being in power??? Why don't you conservative Republicans place the blame where it is due?? How about the man who is in power STILL and nothing has been changed for the better in the past eight years??? How about the fact that these have been the worst eight years in history for the American economy. Low Gdp, high unemployment, and if any of you are in commissioned sales, I know you have felt the pinch over the past few years. If this recession lasts into the 2nd half of this year, which is the prediction, then this will be the longest since WWII. And where is the money paid to these banks to stop the economic crisis, where is it?? There is no accountability to these funds, but your super stud ACTING PRESIDENT has no problem with handing the banks an open checkbook. Probably the biggest problem I have with the CURRENT PRESIDENT is that we were led into a war with Iraq based on a lie. A lie that cost the American people $587 billion dollars and counting. That money could have been far better spent domestically , with a small percentage paying for the true threat which is Osama Bin Laden. The Bush administration was asleep at the wheel, is still in power, and thank god their reign is almost over.
