First of all Catholics do not worship idols, just another ignorant statment. Also did not Sugar post of her friend saying Catholics were Satan worshipers?? Wondering why she felt the need to post that?

I was just posting it because I thought it was interesting that two religions can be so similar but have zealots on both sides that think the other is wrong.

Secondly, saying that Catholics worship idols is not ignorant. I have seen MANY catholics worship MANY idols with my own eyes. ALL catholics may not do it and MANY catholics may teach against it, but I can't discount what I (and GP) have seen!

Well im not going to keep going over this, but i guess it would depend on what you call idols, and if it is someone praying to a statue of Mary, or a Saint, or Joseph and baby, then i don't consider this idol worship. Idol worship to me is like what ppl do practicing Voodoo, Witchcraft or Satanism. As far as this fact thing goes, there is no evidence to prove or disprove any religion, other than artifacts that are found and carbon dating. So what faith are you two to be saying this?

This is really going nowwhere, lol! Im sorry but praying to the Virgin Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, and Saints is not Idol worship, end of story. If you think this is, then you are not informed with the Catholic churches practices. They pray thru symbols of Mary, Saints, Jesus, and other figures of the Catholic church and im sure as others do, like Lutherans etc. As far as your reasoning now about you bringing up your "friends" comment on Catholic's being Satan worshipers, this was done directly after GP's blanket statment about Catholic's being idol worshipers with no explanation. And i might add that no faith can be directly based on fact, not even alot of the Bible, that is why it is a belief. You have to understand that the Catholic faith is like many religions and different ppl have different interpetations, but Catholic doctrine is clearly written. Unless, you base everything on scientific evidence there is no direct fact. All we are going by is what is handed down and by historical documentation and artifacts. If you believe that Catholics or have seen them praying to idols, i would like to know what statues they were praying too?? I would bet it would either be Mary, Jesus, or a Saint. Idol worship is praying to an animal, amulet or something to do with Satan. I think most would agree that praying thru Mary the mother of Jesus, the Saints, or a holy figure is not idol worship, but you are intitled to your opinion. Also mostly i think using the word "false God" would be more on the lines of praying to Satan.

There is only one God and there is the Son of God, Jesus. I personally don't believe you should worship or pray to anything other than those two. Mary, although she gave birth to Jesus, was human like you and me. SHe was not without sin, like you or me.

The catholics that I have seen praying to idols - were praying to statues of Mary, Cards with Mary's and the Pope's picture, and necklaces with Mary's likeness.

I don't think praying FOR the pope is wrong, but praying TO him is.

I think we have alittle discrepency. For one, these Catholic's are suposed to be praying for them and the cards are christian cards with pictures of Jesus, Mary,etc and have prayers on them, the kind you get at funerals. Sometimes they have the person who is decesed picture on them with a prayer that the family has selected. These are not like tarrot cards or something, lol! I might add, that the statues in a Catholic church have all been blessed also and if a person has statues of Mary or Jesus in his or her home, they should also be blessed. This is all part of Catholic religion,( Hail Mary's, the different prayers etc) and many other denominations like Lutheran, etc. it is not idol worship. If you want to see it as that i guess that is your perogative. If you believe in Jesus Christ and is the Son of God in your heart, then this, yes is all you need for salvation. But you must also do deeds to show your faith and try to follow his path. So i take it you are not of a denomination, or have changed to non denominal Christian? There are many who do not agree with the Catholic faith rituals, but that is ok, just so it is not put as a downgrade to that particular faith. As i do not participate in some other denominations, many do not in mine, but i am not that strict to have my own mindset either. Everyone has their paticular way of believing and that is ok too. Only thing im not for is Atheisim, but then they also have their beliefs and i understand them also. I is above all that God is the one the Alpha and Omega, but it is not wrong to pray for Mary, Jesus, and the Saints thru a symbol of them.

No, you do not have to do deeds to go to heaven - That is something taught by the Mormon religion and is an absolute false if you are Christian

i am a catholic and would never say anything bad about another religion i believe id rather have someone praying to a HIGHER being than satan. If many are cristians, you would stop insulting others just to get their goat, its like you want to push peoples buttons because you have something against them. I find for a site that NEVER wants DRAMA always has the most, why is that, i like the site , except it seems like there are clicks and if someone disagrees with someone in it then that person or persons get a bashing, thats why i rarely post here! sorry just voicing how i feel. I am not saying if you do not do good deeds you will not go to heaven, just to try and follow his word and path. If you pray to God and do not do good deeds or try to follow his word how are you then being Christian? Also, Mary was chosen by God to bear his child, so in that i would say that she is more than us mortals. Also do you not pray for dead loved ones?? So iam guessing you are Protestants? I am Catholic, but i do use other views in my religious beliefs. It is just when i go to church i go to Catholic, because that is what i was brought up in. I notice you use the word "To" alot. When i pray, i pray for that person, same with Mary etc., but i pray "To" God. There is a difference. I know deeds is a term from Mormon faith. I use it as a Work also. You can do this simply by being respectfull to your fellow human beings, trying to help others that are in need, or showing humility, and you don't even need to go to church to do that, lol!

I do know the Bible says in James that a faith without deeds is a dead faith, no more than a demons faith. I can see where Mick is coming from is this regard, and I agree with him. If a person claims they said a prayer, they asked Jesus into their heart and they believe Jesus is the Son of God, and yet, the bare no fruit and their life is full of willful sin with no regret then I say they do not truely believe. If something doesn't change then no change took place. A true believer will strive to please God by baring fruit. Will that person still sin? Yes. But they will repent those sins with a sorrow heart, and that is the difference.

I think there is a difference between baring fruit and doing good deeds. A believer can do good deeds for a selfish reason and that would not bare fruit. The Bible speaks of doing good for others and telling no one about it. However, one who is ethical, honest with his fellow man, trustworthy, diligent and humble. That person may not go around doing good deeds for others but their character bares great fruit by being obedient to God. Baring fruit is nothing more than obedience to God. It's in the way we think, the way we speak of others, they way we treat others, the way we handle our money, the way we spend our time, the way we teach our kids. All these things are to be done a certain way according to God and to strive to do it his way will bare fruit. However, doing all these things without the belief in Christ is useless. According to my beliefs.

I belive this also....so that would make praying to mary the st.'s or anyone else other than Jesus Christ Idol worship to me! and if you say you are praying for them and not to them, why............... they have passed away they do not need you to pray for them, it would not do any good! you can not pray someone out of hell!
