Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today

Hey I have a question. Is it okay for the pit bull puppy and my 2 year old dog to play really rough? I mean they are going at it and it sounds viscious ...I know dogs play rough with each other but is this an okay thing for them to be doing? I mean, If they arent supervised 24/7, dogs will be dogs and they are going to play fight and bite each other. I hope its not going to make her aggressive. Thanks for your insights. I mean they are in the house right now just beating the hell out of each other. Growling and snarling and going at it. good gawd

If they are just playing rough occasionally, they should be fine. If the fights escalate to where you can tell they are serious, and you should be able to tell. Then they may need to be separated. My males would go at the m in nute they seen each other with bad intentions, but my female would whoop both of them rough housing. Neither of my males ever got serious with the female. Pitbull puppies like to rough house, if you had a litter it would be non stop squabs in the pen around 8-12 weeks. Your bigger dogs will put the pup in her place if she gets to rough, ita about dominance and play right now. But that could change as they get older and she has her first heat.

I wouldn't let them get in the habit of fighting in the house! If the pup is instigating it, she may need to go in pen for time out. You do NOT want grown dogs fighting in the house even if its rough housing.

Honestly, the ptbull is starting to get real aggressive and taking toys away from the other dog, like super aggressive and growling...What do you all think? Is it play or a bad sign?

Thanks. I thought the same thing. This puppy stuff is all new to , my dogs were all older than her. This just started last night and they do it inside and outside, they get rough as hell outside and I cant be watching them al the time. My other dogs get rough but not that bad.

blueedge nailed it. i would just keep an eye on them. i would never and mean never leave them along by themself for long spans at a time. my male and female get along great he will mess with her and she will put him in his place fast but i dont and wont leave them together more then 30mins at a time.. things can change when you are away and with no one there to stop it wont be a sight you want to come home to. i did this years ago when my wife first moved in with me and it was bad and i mean very bad.. my dog was fine but the younger female who was at our house wasnt very good and the kitchen looked like a murder scene only people home at the time was the wifes kids who were all teenagers. the cops came fire dept etc...

Yea that's not good. The pup has not been trained at all most likely and its gonna take some work to get past issues. I never really had a pit behave that way because I started training them young. Now because I had 2 males and a female, I could not have my males any where near each other. I had to keep them separated 100% of the time. Both males could be around female but I had to keep them separate because there was no play it was straight fight
.I never tried to force them to overcome their issue and didnt think it could be done so I dont really have any experience breaking unwanted aggressive behavior, wish I could help more. Hopefully some of the other guys here have some solutions, YouTube has an answer for everything it seems so i would try searching methods to curb aggression in pitbull pups

I may have to just keep her supervised. I figred I could let her roam around outside, its 5 fenced in acres. At first I was glad they were playing so much cuz its exercise. But it started getting out of control. Maybe she was getting bullied and just reacted

Wow. Ok, I need to be watching her . My other dogs adapted to each other right away no problems at all. So seriously, are pitbulls just more prone to this than other breeds?

Could be, dogs will be dogs. Usually things dont turn real violent unless their is a dominance challenge, food bowl, fight over female or mate ect.... u may not be able to leave toys around them when they are together. Taking away the source that started the fights could help. Never let them just go at it hard, break them up, fighting over food is easy to avoid just feed them separately and give them time to eat. Never leave food down for them both all day

Good to stop it now before its habitual. Ive not used the crate yet but do throw beef jerkey in it and she goes in it. How important is the crate to training?

Good to know They have been great and eat out of the same bowl and no food aggression. This fight erupted over some chew thing. Ive had dogs beat the hell out of each other playing, like crazed wolves and be as calm as can be around people. I figured thats how dogs play and wear themselves out. But for a ten week old puppy to go crazy ham like she did tonight was a bit disturbing.

Yep, for a long period of time these dogs were bread to be animal aggressive for fighting and hunting purpose and some blood lines are just prone to be go getters. I had a game dog from sorrell blood line and he was super animal aggressive but only towards other Male dogs, never smaller dogs or females UNLESS they acted aggressively toward him then the flip would switch and he would start shaking he wanted to get to them so bad. And once he had a run in or cross eye with another dog he always went after them after that. I kept a VERY close eye on him, he never left 5 foot from my body outside our fence and was harnessed not collared because he would choke himself to death with a collar...psycho freak lol

I never used the crate method but I know it to work, it helps then self sooth I think. Having my dogs from 7 to 8 weeks allowed me to get a jump on training. Find a treat she really likes and you can train her to listen and be a good dog. Pitbulls are like toddlers, they take more work than the average breed to raise. They will test your patients but you will have the best dog if you invest the time in training

most of the time if not all of the time my dogs are in crates. when my one male was young for a couple months the
/ males could be around each other but when the younger one got older that changed and they cant even be on the other side of the door from each other or they will fight thru the door. they are in different rooms and in creates. why i use crates is when i leave my dog is in the create and i know when i get home my dogs will be safe as they were created all day.

not saying any of this will happen but keep an eye on her and she may find her place and have no issues with anything.
