what type of shoes are you guys using for squats and deadlifting? i have a pair of israeili(sp) commando boots that i have worn for years and years. they dont export them anymore so i have to use my torn frayed and beat up ones haha. i also have some new nike shoes that work really well also. i usually end up blowing these out in a few short months so the wear and tear on them isnt so great. chuck's would be a close third. my all time favorite has always been leather combat boots. i havent used them in many years now but they have great ankle support and a small elevation of the heel. the downside is you look like a fool and they are pretty hot and heavy.

so let's see what everyone else is using

Just a good ol pair of tennis shoes. Never had any ankle problems but a lot of knee problem, every about 15 years ago I was helping a buddy with some forced reps on the leg press machine. He just dropped the weight I had my knees extended for support. My knee gave way. I need to evaluate my shoes. Great topic

that's how i gauge my footwear ig by if my knees get angry after leg day or squatting. if they are good to go then i know the shoe will cut it and if not i wont wear them again haha. i have tried lots of various foot wear over the years. i have found that the mimimalists that a lot of people really like tend to wreak havoc either on my knees or back. i tried a pair of kevlar minimialists from a company out of norway. they were free and wanted me to test them out. really comfortable slipper like shoes and low and behold i hurt my back wearing them. so those were a no go. i also have some different levels of minimals from inovate. i know the owner of that company as well and he gave me a couple different pairs to test out. they are only good for maybe 3 heavy sessions and i blow them out of the sides. no issues with back or knees in them but they dont hold up to heavy poundage for me. i also found that in the inovate shoes doing cardio absolutely kills my knees and feet. i know they are designed with runners in mind but at my weight, they are a no go even for just tread mill work. you may find success with the inov8 shoes though.

        Re: Shoe Selection

Shoe selection has become very important to me. When I was a kid I got only the cheapest shoe. In the Marine Corp I developed such bad shin splints I need a good shoe now. Even now there are times I can only walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes or so. I think my size contributes

haha ig i feel your pain my man both in the mc and in the iron game no pun intended. what i found in all my quests for losing the dreaded shin splint department was this because i am damn sure not going to freaking down size. first thing is i hammer the absolute piss out of my tibias on a regular basis. that helped me in both running and humping in the mc and i still do it to this day. the other like we are talking about now is finding the perfect footwear. take a look at chucks and the inov8 shoe line. those have helped me out a ton and the nike air maxes are fantastic but they dont last long for me due to blowing out the sides of the shoe. i am using them now and i did deads in my new ones today

no issues with the nike blowing out the sides man? not the cushion but the actual shoe material part. i blow them out in a couple short months haha but they are great shoes

As for what women wear, I will always prefer the look of a woman in heels. Hope that doesn t make me a bigot. lol

I like Nike too, but they don't last long for me either. Because of that, I always just get the cheaper ones with no special sole. None of the Nike Air or shocks for me LOL. Those always end up like flat tires in a short time.

haha yohimbe, i have only blown the shocks out the bottom a few times. i guess i put so much pressure on the outside like you are supposed to when squatting the shoe material just dont hold up. i blow all my shoes out that way
