I was born in a small town in KY in 1956. Worked on a farm. I was lanky at 150# and 6'2".
I joined the Navy in 1974 3 days after graduation from high school. I was so lanky they almost did not take me. After weigh in the put me in a room with lots of bananas, peanut butter and ice cream. I still weighed under so the recuiter put his foot on the scale and pressed. I passed. I took an engineering test and they put me in the Seabees because I scored high.
I was deployed to a variety of places not fit to live in but hey that was my job.
After the Navy I used my GI Bill to go to college. I was always interested in health so my major was exercise physiology and double minor in health and sports injuries. The weight room was near most of my classes so I would pump iron during break between classes.
On day I was looking through a BB Mag and saw an ad from "The Great Scott" Larry Scott. He would be a training partner and mentor for a fee. I sent him my money. He wanted an activity log and also a food intake log. Also a training log. He sent back some tweaks some minor and some major. He upped my calories to over 6,000 per day. Dianabol 10mg daily it was legal then and cheap so he told me what to tell the doctor to get them.
My weight quickly went up to 193# where it leveled off. I looked decent with a 52" chest and 31" waist. I competed in so BB contest and did well.
Larry told me to go off dianabol and switch to winsterol 10mg. I did not like it as well but did as he said. Strength went down some but got more vascular.
So this is the story how I got into weight training.
