  • Big guys in body building..,

Did anyone hear what Arnold said about the body builders today?
He pretty much said that none of them are pleasing to the eye anymore. That it's basically a "mass monster" contest. He's wanting to see more pleasing competitors at his next Arnold Classic.
Do you agree with him? I definitely do. If you compare what these guys look like now compared to when Arnold, Lou, frank Zane, etc... competed, to me...it's a no brainer. I'd much rather look like Arnold then anyone competing now. Just my opinion tho. Any thoughts??

that's why they added the classic physique division imho. do i think it looks bad with the mass monsters? no as long as they control their stomach on stage. look at phil heath, dennis wolf shawn rhoden and i will even give it to kai greene somewhat also when he is in shape. they all flow and still have the x frame taper going on. are the waists as small as dexter's? hell no but they are also about 40lbs heavier

I agree 100%. I mean they are fun to look at but I'd much rather look like the old school bodybuilders. Either way they all work hard and I give it to anybody that can step on stage.

Agreed but it should have been called Classic Bodybuilding, not Physique.

I prefer Schwarzenegger's look back in the day, but I do like the mass monsters look as long as it isn't sloppy. Like guns said, some of them can get out of control in the mid-section but as long as they keep it tight it's not bad imo.

I see both sides but my big thing is Heath. I've been around these guys at comp time and they are death warmed over. Looking back at pumping iron days they all seem happy, healthy, days at the beach and fucking split tails all day long. These guys today (at least my experience) can't even run to their front door. The health aspect is scary off balanced.

That's what I'd like to see comeback, slight pendulum swing back to healthy side.

cant get bone ass dry and grainy and still be productive 6. when my bf gets down to below 8% i feel like pure and utter butt hole. add in taking water out to dry and it makes it 10x worse. conditioning is the most important aspect that judges are looking at and getting there is far from healthy and productive for sure. that is unless you are a freak like dexter is and he even looks rough the last couple of weeks. our sport is brutal and i say it is a good thing that no performance is measured because on game day you dont feel like doing jack haha

This Arnold was really lacking some of the top guys with X Frames (Wolf, Jackson, Rhoden) but Cedric McMillan looked great. 6-2 at 265 is not really a "Mass Monster". Warren, Kai, Compton, Morel dont really have slim waists with X-frames. Maybe Arnold should match or go over what the Olympia pays, he could easily do that.

My opinion is very unpopular so I'll start out by saying this; I respect Arnold and all he has done for this sport. I loved all his movies as well and back then he was the epitome of bodybuilding. But as time has past and I look back I don't think his physique was that great. If a local level guy had legs like his they would get laughed at, let alone a pro with legs like that. And to me frank Zane looked like he someone who did martial arts or was a gymnast not a bodybuilder and certainly not a mr o. Kai in 2009 was a great match of size and conditioning, jay cutler in 2009 was his best ever. That's the ideal I strive for. I also liked Antoine vaillant before his many hiatus'. I like evan centopanis physique and flex Lewis is amazing as well.

They should have 2 Olympias. One class for people who want to take it to the extreme no matter what. Because it is entertaining as hell to see how enormous a human being can get. Ripped to the bone at 300 pounds is no longer science fiction!!!
Then of course a class for regular guys who dont want to push the edge.
The classic physique ...Hmmm If someone tells you that you have a classic physique, is that a compliment or criticism? lol
