Welcome aboard bro. Glad to have ya. Like Guns mentioned, have you had any bloodwork done to see where your levels are? If not, at your age it would be a great idea to get that done and see where you are and make sure everything else checks out before starting. If you are extremely low, the doc might just go ahead put you on HRT to bring your levels backup.
If you're looking for more and just HRT to bring it back to normal I probably still stick with a test only cycle using a long ester like cyp or enan, but still injecting more frequently to keep your levels more stable. Even with that route, I still recommend getting some blood work done first to see where you are and make sure everything is okay.

screw the gel man. that is going to make you peak and valley like it is cool. tell the doc that you are concerned that it will rub off on your wife and grand kids/kids or whomever you want to say. that's how most get around stupid endos that still try to give people worthless gel
Man the gel sucks. Definitely voice your concerns with it like guns said and tell them you would be more comfortable with the inject. It drives me insane that some endos even go the gel route.
