I wish I would have thought what they heavy benching was doing to my joints and done something different then barbell benching.. but when I was younger and didn't think about what I looked like just the amount of weight I was pushing in the gym..

already had one shoulder surgery and need another one but have been putting it off

I always worked with guys that had an advantage on me in certain things and push myself to beat them it caused damage to my joints. Example my friend Brett a great guy he was 6 inches shorter and build like a fire plug and could bench a lot and I had to match or beat him so I would bounce the weight off my chest and lift so much that I was not concentrating on building my muscles. Today I still have damage from that. I regret that I was so competitive on how much I lifted and not how much I was building my body. No AAS for started TRT when I got older.

here is a breakdown on what i would have done:

surrounded myself with better my like minded people

been more consistent with my eating way earlier on

no stupid ego lifting and doing power lifting meets for shits and giggles just because i was strong. no carry over and not important at all for what my goals were

jumped in with a good coach that would have been there to bounce ideas off of and as a reality check on plans training and everything else.

i have this stuff lined up now really well and i have learned a ton from trial and error as well as working with clients and other coaches but i would def be much further along if i would have done some different things earlier on
Wow this is close to my answer...but it has been a great ride so far. Going to be 45, training for 23 years, been less than 5 years of supplement use, but like gunz said just paid more attention to nutrition and eating period, just now started working with a coach since Nikki and I competition last May...was recommended by NPC Head Judge and Commissioner, and now taking it to the next level at 45, I am blessed to have had this lifestyle and now pay it forward to the next generations and others. Love the bodybuikding lifestyle! Stay healthy!!!

Great answers guys. It's interesting how different peoples' opinions are. Some wish they used MORE and started EARLIER, while some wish they used LESS and WAITED.....I guess you just have to figure out what's right for you and what's important to you....

I'm not that old , but I wish I had someone or waited till I did. That could have taught me more proper methods of lifting and then aas later. I could have much more potential if I had known where to look for guidance when I started out.

it's funny you mention this one. i had guidance that was freaking about as piss poor as it comes from dudes that were threatened by me. so they in turn tried to screw me up when i got started. sad thing is both were not even in the same weight class nor division as i was so it made no sense other than spite and not wanting me to do well. best i had was a couple old school dudes and a lady that had been in the game for quite some time as well. pretty bad when you got a female bb coaching you in your start. years later through lots of trail and error and research pretty much everything they taught me and did with me was 100% wrong
