For the past few months been waking up with a stiff and sore neck. Thought i was possibly sleeping on it funny so i changed my pillows around. Still no help on the stiffness and soreness but now I have some cracking and snapping going on when i turn my head either up, down or side to side. Not all the time, just the initial turn do i hear this then after a second turn, no sound. Went to Ortho and he recommended a CT Scan and MRI. Just had both done and going to see him tomorrow for results. At a minimum I know what he's going to say, dont lift heavy weights. Granted I turn 50 this yeare and have been lifting since 16 and cycling on and off since 25. I am sure this has something to do with it. Anyone else have this issue?

Re: Neck
Maybe you're like me. I have sleep on 2 or 3 pillows bc my shoulders are so wide, if I dont my head is leaning down so far I'll wake up with a stiff neck too.
If its not your bones and its something the muscles. There are resistance bands/straps that are used to stregthen neck muscles, you move your head against the band. It looks dumb useing them, but your neck is like everything else. The muscle can get weakened by something over time.
If none of that works you could go to chiropractor.Animal the manimal

Re: Neck
I get the same issues with my neck every once in a while and I can't really pinpoint a specific cause, as it's not constant but I feel your pain. Could have something to do with how you're training, or how you're sleeping. One pattern I notice with mine is it seems to happen more so when I sleep on my side and seems worse in the morning. Hope everything turns out ok. Keep us posted.

Re: Neck
Neck pain can be caused by many things—but is most often related to getting older. Like the rest of the body, the disks and joints in the neck cervical spine start to go with arthritis we lift heavy. The cervical the C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 C6 C7 could be wear and tear. The major ones on all of us that tend to go first C4- C5. Could be some bulging or herniated the disk going on. Re: Neck
Man I have a narrowing in between the c5-6 area that gives me fits. Only way to fix is fusion but that's extreme. I had the imaging done just to verify I wasn't going to paralyze myself. Now I just know how to deal with it. Mine pinches my left shoulder nerves so get horrible pains but we march on!
