YOU NEED TO GET A MRI TO FIND OUT FOR SURE WHAT DISK IS HERNIATED OR SEVERAL.ALSO SEE AFTER THE MRI YOU GET SOME CORTIZONE SHOTS THOSE HELP ME SO MUCH.I HAVE METAL PLATES IN MY NECK I HAVE A T11-T12 FRACTURE IN MY BACK SO CORTIZONE HELPED ME BUT CANT DO TO MUCH.

            Re: herniated disc/ sciatica

            A few recommendations
            1. Find a new Chiropractor, Chiropractic works, I have seen this first hand. There are many techniques out there, Activator is a great one...
            2. Lean towards ice. Ever see athletes applying heat on the sidelines? Ice is anti inflammatory, heat promotes inflammation. If the disc is herniated, you can bet there is inflammation.
            3. Watch out for surgeons. Long term studies show increased complications, especially with fusions. Fusing a lower lumbar will effect SI joints and upper lumbars and cause further problems.
            4. Be careful with compressive lifts (squats, deadlifts, heavy shoulder press, heavy shrugs etc.)
            5. Don't sit for more than a few hours a day
            6. Strengthen the core

            well there's my two cents:-)

              Re: herniated disc/ sciatica

Chiropractor helped for 20min after getting cracked...cortisone shots helped for 6weeks or so than started getting them every month...inversion table helps for a hour or so for me personally...I have alot of friends and family that use the table couple times a day with great success...I started out using heat..usually the hottub but it seemed to inflame me much more...Ice,stretching helps me the most...Everyone is different and has different pain tollerence u need to find ur personal regiment for best results...

                Re: herniated disc/ sciatica

i think the tb500 is going to help, i also started gh yesterday too. i have a feeling this pain will start kicking the dirt. still getting an mri as soon as i can but if my body keeps recovering like it is(minus the flair ups it has everynow and then) it prob wont do much to get an mri. i hate doctors. its insane that i cant even get in til next month.

well my doctors visit is only with a nurse next week! ****! so prob no mri. but there is good news and some more bad.
good news is i dont have as deep of pain in my legs and its not shooting down my hammy as far. my pain is from lower back down to glute hammy tie in. bad news is i still have no flexibility in my left hamstring. my right i can do a sit and reach to easily almost able to put my whole palm on the bottom of my foot. left leg i cant even stretch my finger tips past mid shin and its sharp pain localized to my lower back. massage is scheduled for the 27th and doc appt is the 11th this month. hoping for some answers but if anyone has ideas let me know!
                  thanks

                      Re: herniated disc/ sciatica

I just had surgery for the same thing. They opened up the opening so the nerve is not pinched. OMG it feels so much better now.

                        Re: herniated disc/ sciatica

It depends on how the disc is resting on the nerve. If it is just resting you could probably do some stretching to relieve some pain. I used to grab the pullup bar and just hang. Felt so good. If its like before i had surgery then your screwed and need surgery. Only an MRI can tell. My disc herniated around the nerve. It basically blew and wrapped itself around it. When they were cutting the disc off they were slicing small pieces of the nerve as well. It was so bad i couldnt walk without support and it hirt to sit and lay down. Yours doesnt sound as bad though. The pain went from left glute to my toes and every step felt like blood was shooting out of them. Even now i need percocet daily because the scar tissue is so bad. The injections in the spine may work for you. They didnt worrk for me but mine were so bad. Im sorry man i really hate seeing someone go through this. Try spine injections they are the least invasive and cortizone usually works or whatever it is they jam in there

                          Re: herniated disc/ sciatica

no groin pain. i use an inversion table and it helps a bit but its only temporarily. what hurts is trying to strech my left leg, i have my gf help stretch it and it is pretty painful.

so i got in with my doctor early, no mri. she said that she prob couldnt detect what was going on even if i did... stupid if u ask me! but instead she gave me prednisone and 800 mg ibuprofen. said to take it for next 5 days and if it doesnt get better by next visit then to discuss other options. she wanted me to start physical therapy but i do not have the money to afford 2-300$ sessions from who she was referring me to. i said no i am a certified trainer give me the exercises and i can perform them myself. thanks! pain is still there in my left leg. guess we will see if these pills do anything but i highly doubt they will...

that sucks to hear man. it is sad that they will try everything to get you out of their office without trying to iron out what the prob is. obviously i am no doc but i am smart enough to know if it is shooting down your leg then you have some neuro issues going on for sure

Sorry but that is bs!!! yes, sometimes MRI's do not show evrything but they do show soft tissue and may show something. was this a regular doc? Watch that ibuprofen hard on the tummy for some. Drink lots of water too. Dd you get a Medrol dosepack or just prednisone?
