  • herniated disc/ sciatica

so im pretty sure i herniated my disc in my lwer lumbar again. i have pain all the way down to my tail bone and it radiates all the way down to my calf. im guessing my herniated disc is presssing on my sciatic nerve and causeing the pain in my left leg. i really dont wanna go to the doctors, seems they dont do shit for me everytime i go. but i do go to my chiropractor just seems like he hasnt done much for my back problem or cant find the root cause. any ideas or suggestions?
    thanks

I have had this for about 5 years and it now goes all the way down to my foot in the heel to the toes. I have had a couple epidural injections in to the l5, s1 area and they did help. It can be so painful so i know how you feel. somethings that make mine worse when it acts us is, sitting to long, doing a lot of stairs. squats, lunges. They all make it worse and sometimes even bring on the pain. have you had any shots?

ive had this problem for awhile now and til recently its been really bugging me especially after a squat day. i use to be a big lifter squating up to 585 for 3 reps. now just doing 225 what i did last week caused it to hurt tremendously bad for the 4 days following. its relieved for now. just slight pain but i know if i even do light squats it will flare back up. i had to use 1600 mg of ibuprofen liquigels just to get the pain to go away. no injections yet and i just want a fix not a cover up ya know?

i love heat also. that was just a temp relief cause we were going to the coast and my back was killing me sitting down that long of a car ride. standing up was very difficult after sitting that long.

I am telling, sitting is the worst for me to when this is acting up. Try to do some foam rolling of the glutes, quads, hams, it band or gentle stretching, Sometimes tightness alone, in these muscle groups, can cause this to act up.

ice then heat. i had surgery to fuse L5 to the sacrum as i lost feeling in my left leg and could barely walk. from the pain in my back and the numb leg

22 years later I am still going great. i did have one setback when the fusion failed and cracked. that hurt but it luckily healed well

lie on an ice pack right after working out. ice it off and on until the swelling has gone down then use a heating pad to loosen the muscles. also massages work great if they don't hurt too much. a TENS unit also helps prevent the muscles from locking up

Yep. As I was reading this, I was thinking inversion table. If you can decompress the spine with inversion, sometimes the disc material will migrate back to where it belongs. I would definitely be inverting.
Also, ice massage. Put some styrofoam cups filled with water into the freezer. After its frozen, tear the top half inch of styrofoam away and rub it there for a few minutes until it goes numb. You can alternate this with heat.
                  Good luck.

bought the inversion table, thanks dzone for the recommendation. its def helped. seems like more than my chiropractor is doing : / but all in all ive been heating and inverting and stretching with foam rolling every now and then. my flexibility went from hand could reach knees to now where i can touch my toes again. i use to be flexible enough to palm the ground. id like to get that back. ive added in some lumbar strengthening exercises also that i do a few times a week. one problem that stil is there though is i can still feel the pinch run down my glutes and hamstring. is there anything i can do about nerves to help fix this or is this something im going to have to go to the doctor for?
                      thanks

shots only cover up the pain though am i not correct katelly? i was strongly considering doing some peptide stack. finding all the wound healing peps and even this new one says it helps nerve regeneration! its worth a try am i not right?
                        thanks

when you get a flare up give the medicated salonpaa pain patches a try man. these are like gold. also what i did (cause of compressed verts from a blast) is i went to the chiro and they put me in traction 2x a wk. same concept as inversion work but more aggressive

Inversion definitely works. But ya have to be careful with the angle. Only go to where it's comfortable. When I first got mine I went full upside down and caused more pain than relief. Start with slight incline and just let it stretch, then progress from there. Also, shots did help tremendously, but it was a series of them over two yrs.
