  • My old DLP TV

Well my old DLP just broke. It sticks at the welcome screen. I used to be able to unplug it and plug it back in to get past it, but now that doesn't work. I think the main board has a cap leaking down.
It has been a good TV. 3 bulbs in 12 years and 3 good cleanings with a vacuum but now my old 73 inch has laid down.
I order a Sceptre 64 inch from Walmart for 599$ it is a LED with good specs. With tax and extended warranty it came to a little over 700$.
It will take a little getting used to it. I will move my furniture around to make it seem larger. I am sure it will be OK. I will be out of a TV for nearly 2 weeks for shipping but I will live.
I listen to the stereo and play on the computer more.
I did order a 5.1 sound bar for it from Vizio that will make the sound much better

that sucks man. what's funny is when the wife and i first got married we didnt have a tv at all. that lasted for one pay day which is about 2 weeks. we went out and got one of those big ones you never see anymore(non flat screens). the funny part is that we have been married for 17 years and that sanyo still works to this day with zero issues. my youngest used it up till last year when we retired it to the guest/junk room. i will never buy another brand because of that

getting rid of that old DLP will be great. That is what we had and bought a Samsung (unfortunately we spent $2500 on a TV with features we will never use but the picture is WAY better

congrats. I am sure you will enjoy it and be amazed at how much better it looks in your house

Man those old TVs lasted forever. I think my parents had the same TV all the years we were growing up lol. All the new TVs nowadays come with a much better picture, but those old ones just wouldn't quit.

we had the old console TV with a dial., the remote was us kids if dad wanted the channel changed. Do you guys remember your first color TV and how you thought life could not get any better than this!? HAHA

I do remember the first one. Dad bought some glass for the tv that had 3 colors on it. It was not true to life but cool

So does that mean these new flat screen TVs go to shit after just a few years? That would suck cuz theyre expensive

i remember the black and white bad boys for starters and i also remember the one like you are talking about. it was like a piece of the furniture. it was all encased in wood and weighed a freaking ton. the one i remember the most had push buttons on it instead of a dial. literally you clicked 1 2 3 etc..... them things were insane

I think the new ones are rated are 10,000 hours for the led array then it cost more to fix than replace
The DLP had a color wheel and a lamp. I replaced the lamp in mine 3 times but never had to touch the color wheel. Now I got a capacitor leaking down on the main board parts are not made for it
The CRT (tube) lasted a long time and could be fixed but parts are hard to find

No they will last years just like the old ones. We have a polaroid TV in our bedroom that my wife leaves on all day while she works (from home) and it is over 10 years old and is still as good as the day we got it and it is not a high quality piece.
