  • The Jury Duty Scam

Friday, the secretary from the dentist next door came by my office and told me the Doctor was in a panic cuz he got called by "An Officer of the court" telling him he missed jury duty and he would be arrested if he didnt wire them $2,000. He left work during the middle of the day to take care of it.
He then called the cops but it was too late, the cops told him he just got scammed.
Well, today, she came in and told me he is embarrassed and doesnt want to talk about that he got scammed out of 2 Grand!!! Wow. He should have googled Jury Duty scam. Its a very common scam.
If someone ever calls you to wire them money, tell them to **** off.

Ya man, I cant believe that an educated person like a dentist would fall for such a thing. When his secretary said he was on his way to the bank to withdraw cash I told her it sounds like a scam

I still cant believe he fell for that scam. Hes embarrassed and doesnt want to talk about it. Two thousand Bucks! I dont know him too well but man, he must be really naive to fall for that.
They told him there was a warrant for his arrest. All he had to do was check to see that it was false. Instead, he gave them the money. Wow! smh

that's sad a medical professional would fall for a scam like that. the latest one around my neck of the woods is the utility company calling saying you're scheduled to have your power shut off in 30 minutes unless you send payment in next 15 minutes. my hair stylist was about to run out and do this before i said you know the utility company sends you out a 10 day notice on shut offs for non payment right?
You may not recognize your mom when you get home, I shaved her back.

There was an article in this mornings paper about the jury duty scam. Now I can kind of understand how a smart person might get taken in by it. They leave you a message to call , when you call, u get a message saying you have reached the office of the sherriffs department. Sounded 100% legit. These scammers are getting better and better at ripping people off.

i am 99.9% sure that the gov and almost every county and state will send you written notice x amount of times and then they will serve you papers. they will never call you on the phone for any reason requesting funds. they need a paper trial in order to show the judge when they lock you up and you go to court. we have had issues in the past with people calling us where we had to file police reports because they wouldnt stop calling. it is a huge ass problem and also the court gov or any other official agency will never ask for wire transfers for payments. they only conduct business by cash certified check or in some cases credit card.

Please share his phone number....I got Christmas shopping left to do.

Seriously, the one I get often is the lawyer with the IRS following up on the lawsuit they are filing against me and they are wondering if I reviewed the package they sent via US mail. The first time I got the call, I immediately started asking detail questions and got hung up on....I called the # in caller ID to try to seize the opportunity to jack them up further but no one would answer the friggin phone

                      Re: The Jury Duty Scam

I just talked with his assistant today. Wow. I have to say, it is hard to believe how a successful dentist with 2 clinics could be so gullible. She said he was going from one walgreens to the next buying up multiple maximium prepaid visa cards and giving them the numbers over the phone. They told him if he hangs up the phone, they would have him arrested immediately. Duh!!! Im sorry but that is just stupid . This had scam written all over it from the get go.
