  • Hey mountain man and other fishermen.

So I was out in my kayak with an ultra light rod and reel with light line catching little bass and having a ball when............

all hell broke loose, my reel was peeling off line and my rod was straining at the breaking point. anyway it was a flathead cat a little under 30". not huge by flathead standards but big with ultralight tackle in heavy cover.

now folks I would have loved that to be a 12# bass but I am damn happy catching this ugly beast

Jip, what part of the country do you fish? If your down south you should have some giants.

I caught one in the Tennessee river years ago. I've only caught 2 catfish this year, accidentally while trout fishing. I've havent had much luck with big fish so far. I got started late this year, but I caught a nice mess of trout this weekend.

oh yeah. my neighbor across the street regularly catches 50# blues and our flathead lake record is over 100#

mtmedic. i live 10 minutes from the trinity river, the big gar capital of the south. i have never caught a big one as they break my line but I have seen 6-7 foot long logs big around as a basketball ...........that have fins and teeth
