    Re: Workout partners!

I've had great training partners and horrible training partners over there years. For me it depends on the person. I enjoy training with a good partner and can push myself further in certain ways than I can alone. However, I've had some of my best workouts by myself, so I'd say you just have to find the right partner.

i actually made one of my training partners quit yesterday. very very few people can keep up with me especially on legs. sad fact is i am still nursing a set of tender knees so i really am not going that hard. everyone wants to get big but not very many people want to push the envelope on leg and back day haha

If you do not walk funny after leg day you are doing it wrong.

I like to mix it up. I have 2 guys i alternate working out with whenever our schedules match. But we push eachother, try to do one more rep each set. Its great. No selfies or texting, just good motivation, conversation and gainz

It is true there are good workout partners and bad workout partners. I work out alone most days simply because again none of my friends do what I do.... but I'll never pass up the opportunity to try to learn something from someone else or work out with somebody especially if I know they're a good workout partner. I have to agree some others though if you simply just say workout partners suck and you won't do it you're selling yourself short.

Last three days have been perfect examples of why great training partners exist and far outweigh training alone. Last 25 years I have probably trained alone 95% of the time and become used to it and had believed that training alone was the best thing for me. Nope no way. Me guns and his buddy have absolutely wrecked eachother (in a good way) and fucking tore shit up in the gym this weekend. And equally important I continue to learn awesome new techniques and exercises and improving myself. If you have the opportunity to train with someone dont turn it down. If they suck move on, but you may just find someone who will push you to your limits. Wish I could have that intensity every day.

to each their own my man but i can bet you 2 months pay checks or 3 cycles worth of free shit that you could be leaps above your current level with the proper coach/training partner. i dont ever claim to know everything but i have trained with quite a few knowledgable and motivating people in my day. which has helped me further along. you also cant say that training with someone that is a little bigger stronger and more accomplished than you are would drive you internally to work harder or at least move up to match their level. i know i am the freaking man and i still learn and enjoy training with people that are equal to or better than me for a little extra kick. eh but what do i know, i have coached tons of winners and crossed the stage a time or two and done other athletic related things in my day. i like the individual aspect of bbing but in the real world you still need others

another good point i thought about a great training partner. well i myself dont ever like to be out done or out worked by someone else, be it weight or reps. so when my partner adds a plate and does 8-10-12 reps then i am at least going to do the same weight for at least 1-2 more reps. i am going to better myself by out working and out performing my partner. that great competition between two people drives improvements and gains

                        Re: Workout partners!

Day 4 of why a great coach and/ or training partner is the way to go. Simply put anyone who thinks they've got it all figured out even after years in the gym is delusional and kidding themselves... And possibly highly arrogant. I understand a training partner isn't possible for everyone and that there are absolutely people who will hold you back. But to simply say training partners suck is bull shit. I am absolutely fricken destroyed after the last 4 days and I will put my solo session intensity up against anyone's.... and this long weekend with 2 beast training partners I wouldn't trade for anything. And after 25 years in the gym I probably have learned at least 1 or 2 things in the gym with guns every single time... Be it cool intensity techniques or just slight modifications to the exercise or my form that absolutely destroy the working muscle. I work solo most days at home because I haven't found that good training partner who fits my schedule. But if I could have these last 4 workouts every training session I wouldn't give it up for anything.

I remember one of the cool things I read back in the day from Arnolds encyclopedia. I remember he spoke of him and his partner creating their own world in which anything was possible. Motivating eachother, competing, etc..he would have been a good workout partner other than being jealous of his generics..lol. Problem is good training partners are very, very hard to come by.

i know we arent in the gym to bs and socialize for the most part but if you pay attention to the dudes around you that are in their around the same time you may be surprised. i met my strongman buddy in the gym when he asked me for a spot on a 585 front squat. i of course had to tell him no because i didnt trust myself to handle that amount of weight up high. anyway we struck up a short brief convo after appologizing and i have been buddies and training on and off with him for years

                              Re: Workout partners!

I only went to classes until Rake decided to be my partner. He will not let me complain or shortcut anything. We rarely talk unless there is someone to tease or I have a question about form or he sees poor form from me. He gets up I sit down and the lifting goes pretty fast. Guns wife is pretty much the same as me, we take plates on and off like pros because our guys are huge in comparison. Most partners I see in the gym never make any progress and one partner drives the workout. At least I see quite a few over 60 and 70 husband and wife teams in there. That is encouraging to me. We have very few real lifters at our gym. Super hard to find a partner who has the same goals in mind and will show up at the same time as us.
