My lady decided about 4 months ago she wanted to get a pup. We decided on a Belgium Shepherd. She's a pretty smart dog but having trouble getting her to stop whining. She wakes me up at 4am like clock work just whining, put her outside and she continues so it's not a pee issue. She does this a lot and at all times sort of a separation anxiety thing?
I had a puppy that did that too my vet told me to wear a t shirt old one a few time and not wash it and place it in the dog bed so she could smell my scent all the time it worked she stopped after a few days
You should get a kennel box just large enough so that when she's grown she can go in turn around and lie comfortably. Put her to bed close the door and this should solve the problem.

She's crate trained already which I'm a big believer in. It's just this 3-4am wake up whine I'm trying to break!!!!
Wake up every time she makes the noise and punish her. It is a dog and at times needs a hard hand. So many people are trained by their dog instead of them training the dog. A good friend of mine once told me: of course you have the best trained dog in the field if it wasn't it would of been dead along time ago. He said my dog is family and I love him. During that time Caesar was sitting on my left side and his dog got right leg run over by a truck. Who took better care of their dog that day?
like others have said put one of your old shirts in there with him..
all 3 of my pits are in kennels when I am not home.. if my wife or myself is not home they are in a crate is this cruel NO its for them also when I get home I know where they are in there create. they didn't get in a fight with each other while I was gone, didn't get in the trash while I was gone, didn't chew a electric cord while I was gone..
when he whines the last thing and I mean the last thing you want to do is show it attention because he will learn and trust me on this he will learn how to get what he wants. he wants attention all he has to do is whine and you'll come for him...
like rake said train the dog don't let him train you...
