  • Gym Contracts

This girl I know, who has never been inside a gym before, goes to this gym and gets a FREE session with a personal trainer. She then calls me and tells me she just signed a 6 month contract for $150 a month which includes 5 sessions per month with a trainer and her gym membership. Im bummed because I didnt warn her before her FREE session that it was just a sales pitch to get her tied into a contract. Crap. What do you think?
She did call the gym owner later that day and told him she was having some buyers remorse, but I dont know if she has any way out of the contract. I guess if she sticks to it , it will work out. Problem is, most people dont stay with those programs and are stuck paying the bill regardless.
    Thanks

Hmm well by us its about 60 to 70 an hour for a training session so $150 wouldn't be to bad. I would think this club she joined shouldf be pretty nice for that price though. I pay almost $80 a month where I go and is a really nice place. Six months isn't to bad to lock in but I do believe by law, at least where we live, that you can get out of any contract within 72 hours with no problems. Theseales people always get people sucked in

Thats what I was wondering about the 72 hour rule. I guess its an ok deal for her but I am afraid she isnt going to stay with it and be stuck with the bill. This is why so many gyms emphasize NO CONTRACTS in their advertising. The salesman who sucked her into the contract is the owner of the gym and a pretty greedy dude

There is normally atleast a 24 hr period where u can back out of a contract for services if she has not gone to the gym yet. Read the small print on the back of the contract and make sure it's a contract and not a agreement if the paper work is labled a agreement she can cancel at anytime

If she can't get out of it just go get a doctors note usually with those there is a clause if there is a injury. Seeing a doc will still be cheaper. She could even go to a cvs quick cars im sure

normally there is some 48 hour clause as stated before. heck it's only a bad deal if it is a bad deal in her head.

Ya, I dont think its a bad deal at 150 a month, but I dont care much for the high pressure sales techniques they used to get her to sign that contract. That gym is doing this to make up for the lost memberships to other new gyms. Instead of signing up 6 people at $25, he can get one person for $150 a month

Great way for the gym to make money off personal training contracts, especially when they pay their trainers peanuts

I pay $33 and it's pretty much the meat and potatoes gym stuff that builds muscle. Some basic Hammer Strength and Icarian machines but nothing too hipster and no personal trainers. Love it

The way I see it is if she gets herself in shape with this program, then its money well spent. I told her to look at it as an education so she can go forward into the future living a fit lifestyle and not need a personal trainer. I told her to ask questions and learn how to do all of it herself. From there its simply a matter of self discipline, which eventually becomes a habit and a way of life. Hoping it works for her. She is an incredible beauty. Used to be a local tv talk show host. I used to watch her on tv and think , damn, this chick is hot. Who is she?...Now we have been friends for a couple years and she just put on a lot of weight since her tv days. She is in a culture of food and its going to be challenging for her to change her lifestyle.
