my GTO had long tube headers, catless mids and 3" exhaust out the back with FM super 40 mufflers. not one time in 8 years did i get pulled over for loud exhaust. and the car was torrid red! HAHA

is it a diesel or gas job..

if its a gas job I would put some flowmasters on it.. if its a diesel cut the muffler out of it..

I have a 06 super duty with a 6.0L and has no muffler and its pretty quiet until you get on it then it will wake you up

a muffler does just that. modulates the frequency and volume that comes out of the tailpipe. without one it will sound very raw and very loud. a thrush dual chamber or a flowmaster 40 series simply lowers the volume and gives a deeper, cleaner sound and takes away some of that annoying drone.

what he said is correct.. some gas engine sound great with flowmasters depending on the engine...

hard to find a V8 that does not sound good with them. there are better mufflers for performance but on a stock car that still has the catalytic converters it will make absolutely no difference.

How much do I need to spend ? Cutting the muffler off aint costing me anything. How much is a flowmaster?
I was thinking of adding a cold air intake too buy I dunno

depending on the cold air intake and how much it is I might pass. to me they don't add much HP but again it depends on the cost of the kit..

if you want one let me know before you buy one.. my shop is a s&b dealer...

                  those are great filter kits..

the flowmaster is about $70 ish and the thrush which is a copy about 1/2 the price. the muffler shop charged my buddy $75 to cut off the old muffler, put in new pipe so the new muffler would fit (as it is much smaller) sounds pretty damn good. magnaflow is another good muffler, a little more mellow tone. i like the dual chamber mufflers personally

a lot of folk got with duals but other than looks and sound there is no performance benefit. it is placebo effect. sounds faster so it must be. the real restriction in an exhaust system is the catalytic converter. take that off and you will pick up 10hp and your truck will be way loud and you will throw codes unless tuned.

I think I want to take that catalytic converter off. Im guessing most auto shops arent going to do it for me or will they?

some will. but realize you will not pass inspection unless you get a tune if you have inspections. also your exhaust will stink real bad like gasoline. also it will be 3 times as loud with a flowmaster or the like. not worth the problems unless you are racing or towing a lot. might give you a few HP but again without a pro tune it is not worth it. if i was to take off the cat i would leave the stock muffler and see how that sounds. if it is not what you like then try the flowmaster. it will be loud like thunder. only thing to make it louder would be headers
