Afghanistan-my nephew is headed there in a few months

combat ops are winding down baby1 so even though it isnt the safest place in the world it is going to be a more laid back deployment for him.

also depending on what job he does, he could be living very nicely while over there. food is good they have hot showers, tv internet and phones if he works a major spot. if not then it will be months of no bathing, nasty food and lots of boredom lol

Thanks guns, he told my sister that he will be the one sticking out on top of the tank. he may have been just telling her that though. He had a choice of being in the Rangers or going there and he chose the latter. I feel a little better now after your advice

hopefully they will be running out of a major hub. those little crap holes in the middle of nowhere suck some terrible. i learned how to hand wash my clothes in ammo cans doing that stuff and they got clean but were always crusty when they dried. socks and drawers forget about it they either rot off or just throw them away. man i dont miss being dirty lol

We had a first birthday party for my youngest son yesterday, in attendance was a friend of mine who is like a second mother to me, she is a gold star mom...lost her only son in Afghanistan. We have a shrinking presence there and I hope he comes back safe and healthy. Not sure how I would feel about my kids serving....I would be proud but frighned at the same time.

nephew went as a mechanic few years back said he enjoyed it. stepson was supposed to go but peed dirty so they sent him home.. literally. booted his ass out

if you are in one of those areas baby1 they give you all of that stuff. he should be pretty well taken care of for the most part.
