Thinking about getting this for my daughter because she really wants to learn guitar. Read some decent reviews and if it was me I'd probably learn really quick cause I love video games.
I used to play and I tried guitar hero before and I couldn't get it. I'm weird tho, I could play by ear and didn't even bother learning to read music for a few years. One of the few talents I have lol.
There was a real guitar made for these types of games...there is a bridge that moves up for game play and mutes the strings...senses the movements when played...when down...it functions as a regular electric. They're plastic, and relatively cheap, but tunes and plays decent for a start up instrument. I don't think anything can compete or replace 1 on 1 lessons with a good instructor. The key is to find one with similiar music interests.
I've played for over 20 yrs now and was self taught until the later years. I think being self taught is great for creativity and developing personal style, but you can develope bad habits and such that become nearly impossible to correct later. Not to mention the ruts you can find yourself in.
I can just hear Pitt now. With the sound of lamb of God, I love my PTOTEEEEEIN SHAKESSSSSSSSSSSS.
Haha... hate to burst your buble but I'm more of a blues guy. Probably have the only 3 yr old that belts out all the words to whipping post by the Allman brothers. I play and sing that on the acoustic almost daily with them.
Interesting...was just at Guitar Center last night. Have not played guitar but have wanted to learn. I have heard different opinions. Someone said real lessons are better. I dont know. Lots of instruction on youtube. I dont know how Rocksmith works...I was thinking of going back on black friday and buying a guitar

With todays technology you could probably find countless products or websites that would teach you a ton. I just wish I had more "formal" training early on. Feel that the structure would have made a lot of things easier.
Regardless, I'm self taught and pretty damn good...so I say find what you like, what keeps you motivated and inspires you. The rest will work itself out.

I'd imagine the gaming platform keeps you interested during the learning phase.
I think most purest wouldn't want one to use it cause it could cut into their profits teaching you at an hourly rate. Not saying one is better, because I can't, but a one time investment to learn the basics would be the cheaper route. I would think after learning the basics an instructor could/would be more useful.
It's like sex, you don't really want to waste your time on a virgin because you now it's going to suck.
Funny y'all mentioned that, I just bought a Jackson King V and UPS is delivering my Blackstar ID60 today. I bought the Dummy's guide to rock guitar and it seems pretty cool to get ya in the door. I was thinking about the Rocksmith but I want to wait till I hear more about it, really I wanna play my own stuff so maby I dunno. Guitar Center is pretty cool huh ? Kinda like Sportsmans Warehouse, spendy as hell but you just cant walk outta there without buying something.
Leaders did what others weren't willing to do, now they enjoy the things that others do not.
