Serious question. I've never grown up around tornadoes and things like that. A hurricane once or twice in Hawaii when I was a young child. But I'm in Texas now, and we get a few tornado watches here and there. What is one supposed to with their family if the need comes?

Normally, we're to go to the smallest part of the house in the basement, or in the bathroom in the tub with blanket, or a tornado shelter. We're fortunate enough that we have a basement and my daughter always hits the closet in my office. The hubs and I hardly go to shelter since we've grown up going through this. The one that hit by the airport was about a mile or so down. We didn't go inside until the rain really hit us hard. I did go downstairs with kiddo and her rat but our dogs wouldn't go downstairs. The dogs were very calm which is always good.
I was on McConnell Airforce Base in 1991 when the F5 went from a small town just south of us, Haysville, hit the base, and continued to the northeast hitting Andover. A couple years ago, Greensburg got hit in the middle of the night. The tornado siren was invented after the Udall tornado back in the 50's. Massive destruction from these storms is just unreal. Joplin was 2-4 years ago in Missouri. Crazy stuffs!
Same here, lots of warnings in the south, but so far I haven't had to dodge a tornado yet. However, I've seen funnel clouds and heard reports of tornados touching down around my area. Was reading in the news today one hit Oklahoma yesterday too. Pretty scary, that's not too far away.
