Cable or Satellite?

Been without both since early 2006. We've put up with the free tv long enough ha ha! Been out of this so long I don't know what's what and the benefit to each. What are your opinions and experience. Thank you! Wife will be so happy to know which one is better...

I had cable through a major player for a while, but prices were insane. Switched to dish network and pay a ton less. Only minor disruptions with severe weather..but nothing to cause regrets.

same as pitts man. hard to beat all the channels for under 100 bucks. only time i have issues with weather is when it really down pours hard and where i live it rains all the time. rarely goes out on me

i have fios, cost the same as satellite and never goes out. also i dont have to have a dish mounted to my house. but verizon customer service sucks

We just switched from Cable to Direct TV last Saturday and I think it's way better. Direct TV has 14 satellites compared to Dish Network's 3 or 4, which helped with our decision, plus we already had a Direct TV dish on our house from the previous tenants. I'm saving $40 per month including internet which I kept with the cable company, and that includes 3 HD boxes and a DVR in the living room, and with the cable company we only had 1 DVR and 1 cable box.

I will never switch back to cable. The picture is better, features are way better, and the prices is lower. And since I live in NV I don't have to worry much about weather.

If you want direct tv for cheap share it with a friend. This is what we used to do.

Set up however many receivers you plan on using at your house. Obviously this was most likely setup professionally. Then at house number two you will need to set up a dish yourself. Take the activated box from the original house, plug it in at the second house and you are golden. Repeat as many times as necessary. The only part that is required is setting up and activating all boxes at the address associated with the bill. I used to share tv with my parents that live 200 miles away with this method. Initial investment is high. But the end result would mean the max direct channels split into to however many.

Damn, that's great! But it's only us down here. Closest family member is 2000 miles away in a small ass country town. Satellite tv probably hasn't even hit there yet lol!

Indeed it is. I work with satellites but never realized with TV ones you could do that. I would think they would have some sort of protection from that. As far as high initial cost, it depends if someone already has a dish at their residence. They leave them up if you don't take it down, and they don't make you take the dish to your next residence according to the guy that hooked up mine. Also, even though my house already had one installed they offered me a new one if I wanted it. I suppose I could have kept the old one too, but I just told them to use the old one and they ran new cables. Now that I think about it, I should have had them leave me one.

The way you bypass the protection is by activating them all at the same originating house. Hell, how could the tell the difference from a second house and a motor home? A lot of uppity people have a second receiver in their motor homes for camping, tailgating, etc.

I've had satellite for years. Had cable back in the day and didn't care for it. IMO definitely satellite over cable.

I haven't had cable or satellite in over 5 years. I'm too cheap and download all my shows or stream on netflix. I actually got cable a few months ago because comcast was cheaper for my Internet with basic tv, then it was by itself.

If they had it near me I would sign up in a heart beat, unfortunately it hasnt reached here yet (however my buddies less than a mile away have it, its apparently a process to expand "the grid")
