really...math? explain this
Three men are travelling and get tired, so they decide to spend the night at a nearby inn. When they go to the front desk, the innkeeper charges them $30, ($10 each), and the three men go into their rooms and go to sleep. Then the innkeeper realizes that he was only supposed to charge the men $25 total, so he gives $5 to the bellboy to give to the men. But on the way to the men's rooms, the bellboy thinks to himself, "Hey, I've been so good, I deserve some money." So he keeps $2 and gives the remaining $3 to the men. Because they each get $1 back, they paid $9 instead of $10 each. But 3 x 9 = 27. But $30 - the taken $2 = $28. Where is the missing dollar?
I really, really like this puzzle Dave - it's been one of my favorites for years.
But it's 29$ - not 28$
Well - I guess it is depending on how you do the math.
I do it with 3 x 9 = 27 + the 2$ that the bellboy kept = 29$
Either way = there's still a dollar missing!!

You explained it. Just do the math. $30-2=$28. The men each paid $9 once given the dollar back. 3x9=27. 27,28...there's no missing dollar.

? are you fukin with me or are you doing "southern math"??? they each paid 9 which is 27 and the bellboy kept 2, which is 29, but they origanaly paid 30...wheres the other dollar??!! dont be going all redneck math on me!!!
HE WHO MAKES A BEAST OF HIMSELF, GET'S RID OF THE PAIN OF BEING A MAN!!
and my point is...not all truths have rational explanations (unless this riddle does and i just fuked it up, thus blowing my whole point with klash and he's gonna prove it, then play the "credibility" card, but he's not realizing i'm ready for his "you blew your credibility" card with my own "you blew your credibility first!!" card that i got from the deaf, mute, non-walking kid argument he lamely threw at me....lets go!!! bring that shyt klash!!! BRING IT!!!!!!).

lmao...dude. It's just another one of those riddles. It's how you present it that ****s people up. It's simple math. I can work it forwards and backwards for you and it works. But lets just start at the total of $30 for sake of the whole damn story again. no fuk it I'll story it. The guys pay $30. Each $10 equaling $30. The innkeeper gives $5 back. Take 2 from 5, ya got 3. $25. 25+2+3=30.
30-2=28. 9x3=27. okay? plain as that. Unless there's a new number between 27 & 28 that I don't know about, there's no missing buck. 28+2=30 capeesh?
You're letting the "riddle" part get the best of you. Just do the fukin math bro.lol
They each paid $9.33. That equals 28,. the kid took two. throwin that 27 in there throws everybody s brain outta wack
brother, and you did pretty good in math, didn't you?
Don't get hung up on the silly riddle. If you work an equation like this from an ate-up point, like it trys to trick you into doing, you'll get an ate-up answer every time.
Forget about 27+2.
Start from the beginning where you're supposed to. which is 30.
10x3=30
forget about the bellboy, just worry about the digits.
30-2=28
3x9=27 no missing dollar
my goodness! Is there a 2nd grade teacher in the house?
anyone who doubts this answer. Take this riddle to any math "wizard" you know, or just go to a 2nd grade teacher,like I said, and they'll remind you how to solve little word problems, simple arithmetic and equations without letting the "wording" throw you off of where the math should begin.
