It's alright... I usually just open my mouth and say something before I think about it....

I don't think Americans think we are owed anything. But the problem is, lately it has become vogue to bash America, and we feel we do not deserve it. I am not going to mention what we did in WWII, but look at what we did after. Three words "The Marshall Plan." Read about it. We rebuilt Europe and Japan. Yes, we were they only country that did not see significant fighting, but remember, no country "owes" any other country, right? But, we did it any way.

Americans tend to have a more "can-do" attitude, which I think puts a lot of folks off. The English kind of have a similar attitude in a more gentleman way. I think this attitude makes people feel like we think we are superior, when in fact, we just are not typically afraid to try, to fail, and are not afraid of confrontation.

Call it arrogance, cavalier, or what ever you like, we simply tend to have a different attitude than most cultures.

The only thing these war threads has given everyone who participated is an increase in post count. Thank you all for helping me become a Senior Member a lot sooner.

Yes you've said this a few times...

If you believe that statement, then please explain to me why you're upset with France. If your not upset with France, then why the hell are you in this thread?

P.S. I'm sorry for calling you a dickhead, it was inappropriate and I lost my temper. But realize you were trying to make me look bad by totally contorting my position and whay I was saying. Re-read your post and tell me where the hell that came from.

I went on a study abroad trip with about 100 other college students at once throughout Europe. When you take a moment to sit back and observe, you realize partly why we are hated. I was embarrassed at how some of my friends acted. When we go places we expect everything to be like America, everyone to speak English, everyone to accomodate our needs and wants even if it doesn't exist in that country/culture. Some people throw fits as if they are at home or try to use their money as if it changes things. I hate to say it of my own country, cause I love the US of A. But damn we have not been represented well abroad by travelers and we have that reputation to deal with.
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. - Teddy Roosevelt

                      • Just got back from my coffee break, gave me a perfect example of american behavior and why other countries tend to dislike the US.

There were some kids playing outside..

1 kid was playing with his toy, trying to get it to do something.
The other kid (I think older brother) watched for a few seconds and eventually said. That's not how you do it, here gimme! The littler kid said "No" and continued to try working it out himself. Eventually the bigger kid just wrestled/took the toy from the smaller one, did whatever needed to be done and gave it back.

In the end, the smaller boy was crying and the older one was upset because he did something "nice" and the younger brother was unhappy instead of showing gratitude. Eventually they started fighting and Mom took them out to the car...

This really reminded me of the US's forein policy.

                            LOL - good analogy.
The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept. They'd rather sit in front of the TV and let that tell them what they are suppose to like, what they're suppose to buy, and what they're suppose to laugh at. You have Beavis and Butthead telling you what music you're allowed to like and not like, and you've got sitcoms that have canned laughter that lets you know when to laugh if you're too stupid to know when the joke is. People are too lazy and too stupid to think for themselves because America has raised them that way.
