I will just use a few examples of the difference due to time constraints here at work.

1.- Catholics have Priest who are abstinant(sp)- The Bible says to multiply- its has no reference that a Preist/Pator should not wed nor have children.
2.- Catholics worship the Virgin Mary. She is not a deity, but rather just a normal woman
3.- Penticostals- don't let thier woman cut thier hair- no reference Biblically to this anywhere
4.- Church of Christ- doesn't allow the playing of instruments during praise and worship- no reference of this in the Bible.
There are many other things that "Religion" has put on thier congregation that are not in the Bible.
Christians- take the bible as it is written. We don't put a man made twist on it invoking rules that are not in Gods word. We beleive that God created the heavens and the earth and didn't need us to try and put our own spins on his word which is probably why in the order of things created(book of Genesis)- we were last- he doesn't need our help.

By the way- thanks for not being a d*ck- I do appreciate that!

        Re: christianity was plagerized...stolen

Check out 'Zeitgeist" in google and watch the original movie. A newer version comes out in October. The first 15 minutes is BS. The 1st part to watch is about religion and is very convincing. Religion is based on bullshit and faith. If you have faith then everything else falls into place and yes christianity does come the Pageans. Nothing in the bible was written when it happened but centuries later. I highly doubt it to be true much less accurate.
But hey if you have faith....

Christians are the most discriminated against group on this planet. Why don't you guys take some time and try to tear down Islam? You scared? What about Budhism? Hinduism? No, you want to concern yourself with tearing down Christians. I believe the reason you feel you need to tear down Christians is because you're scared there just might be something to it.

What you need to do is open your mind instead of just saying its open and search for the truth. Read all of the literature out there both pro-Christian and anti-Christian and then make an informed decision.

I apologize for the tone of this post but the post that started this thread came across as condesending and arrogant. If you want to discus religon then don't do it by not talking down to someone. Have enough respect to choose your words in a way that won't offend someone about their beliefs. This is something that everyone, atheist, Christian, Islamics, Hindus, everyone hold very dear.
just a few things..i posted the thread in pertanance to my beliefs...
so yes..everyone holds things dear..this one is mine..
          i have read the bible..its a great story..but its just that..a story..
and im not afraid that there is something to christianity that i just dont understand..i believe what i do and im not the only one..so why would i censor myslef to appease others?
you say that this whole subject is really old..well..the topic and forum is there..so it should be open to interpretation..nobody forced you to click on the thread...if there is a religious forum then it should be open to all..not just christians...
and you have the gaul to say that christians are the most discriminated group of people on this planet?
you have your god on the dollar..you have your god in the pledge of allegiance...university researchers found that Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians and other minority groups. so you really want to say that your the most disciminated against..?..i beg to differ...atheists are surrounded by the bigotry daily...
i could try to tear down other religions..but most religions havent spread their beliefs preying on the fears of others..native americans didnt believe in god till they were told theyd go to hell..afircans didnt believe in god till they were told they would go to hell...
scare people enough and they will belive anything...as for me..i accept death...im not scared...

First, what you need to understand is that I applaud you for having your own beliefs. I have never knocked another man for believing something different than I do. Klash and I have gone back and forth on this topic and I like him more than I like most other people here. This is not about you holding a different view. This is about the way you came off in the title of this thread. I will respectfully debate anyone and can walk away not offended and as friends when the debate is done. But in my opinion "did you guys know that your beloved religion...." came across as condescending. I think you chose your words wrong.

And as far as Christians NOT being the most discriminated group in history I need you to talk to the Chinesse that are dying for their beliefs. The Russians that are dying for their beliefs. There are Christians all over this world dying for their beliefs. It may not be to that degree in America but its definetly prevalent.

first off..i see your point about how i worded my opening sentence..youre right..i could have chosen better words...

and as for the rest of your post..i have to disagree with you..yes..maybe in some countries christians are being discriminated against or even worse..BUT..christians have killed more people for their belief than any other group in the history of man....
and in america...this country is run by christianity...there are more christians in the US than any other religion...

I appreciate you seeing my point.

We can respectfully agree to disagree about discrimination. Christians for the first couple of hundred years of their existence faced the grandest persecution scale the world has ever known.

And just as a side note I want you to pay attention to the Christians they interview for news segments. They very rarely get an intelligent, well spoken leader of the Christian community. They get the craziests individuals they can find because that's how we are thought to be.

                    scalley,

that's a universal problem, most folks with core beliefs are humble about them

                    the uber-promoters are usually hard-core

i've been in da pews many times, my personality is one of flexiblity so i always have problems with my way or the highway stuff, no matter what it is

I agree that is a problem with some Christians. There is absolutely no reason to beat someone over the head with my beliefs. There is also no reason to give anyone an ultimatum. Lets face it, ultimatums have ruined more than one marriage and people just don't respond to that. That's fact!

I really believe as Christians we need to love everyone, condemn no one, and be prepared to present a good case for God and Christ when given the oppurtunity. God set all of this in motion so he can present you with the right time to talk to someone. Just my opinion.

Actually, the New Testament was written relatively close to the events. The Old Testament is definitely harder to gauge the time. There are compelling arguments that the beginning of the OT was written during the reign of David as a way to further justify his kingdom.

The life of Christ is quite plausible. I suggest reading "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. He was a Yale educated atheist.

That is a very good book! He has written a few more that are just as compelling and well thought out. The Case for a Creator, A Case for Faith, and A Case For the Real Jesus which is a follow-up to A Case For Christ. A Case For Christ was written in 1998 so he wanted to revisit the subject and see if any of the latest discoveries has had any impact.
