  • Best in home protection gun

Just looking into getting a reasonably priced gun for at home protection. Live in an ok neighborhood, but ya never know. And then my grandma I live with is getting older. So any extra security helps.

I haven't been around guns since my old man got rid of his when all three of his boys got around 4 and older. So it's been awhile since I've shot, minus the few skeet shoots at my friends property so I'll obviously be taking a class and hitting the range.

    Thanks:

ARE YOU WANTING A PISTOL? HOW MUCH ARE YOU WANTING TO SPEND?
AROUND $500 YOU CAN GET A NICE NEW GLOCK 10MM OR 40 CAL

THEY WILL HOLD ABOUT 15 INTHE CLIP, SO IF YOU HAVE TO POP OFF A FEW TO SCARE SOMEONE- YOU STILL HAVE PLENTY LEFT FOR SOMEONES AZZ!!

When it comes to home protection 9mm and 40 cal rounds are def. the cheapest to shoot alot of. Only downside and also the reason that LE and Dept. of Homeland security have stepped up their loads to the. 45 cal is because of sheer knockdown power. I've never been shot with any gun so I cant say for fact that this is the case but alot of LE is changing to the .45 cal now. For home defense though I would get a remington home defender edition shotgun in a 12ga. or even a 20 ga. with a round full of buckshot in the gun there will be no problem shooting through walls or doors and still knocking the intruder down.

            Just my .02

you don't think a large rifle/shotgun would be a wise decision comared to a more compact pistol/handgun

YOU REALLY NEED TO PRACTICE TO BE ABLE TO HIT WITH A PISTOL. ITS TOUGHER THAN YOU THINK. THE SHOTGUN APPROACH IS A GOOD IDEA AND YOU CAN GET ONE OF THOSE REALLY CHEAP.

I have a .38 and a springfield armory 9mm. Both easy to access and the .38 is nice fit for the lady to learn to shoot when we go shooting. I think a pistol is more accesible and practical for safety purposes. The 9mm was a gift from my Dad and the .38 was around 425. Both good guns and they will stay that way if you keep them clean and practice with them. Id def go pistol over shotgun anyday for your first purchase, just my opinion.

Im hoping to get a shotgun in the next few years but for easy access and to be quick if your place is broken into or your girl/wife is left home alone I like a pistol. You can def do more damage with a shotgun and its easier to hit a target, however if you practice enough a pistol is the route for home protection imo. I may change my mind when I actually own a shotgun though....Shot many but havent owned one as of yet.

Heres my baby right here, runs around 450$....Best gun I have ever shot besides the 45 cal. my Dad has, that I am not allowed to have...lol

Re: Best in home protection gun

These are the firearms that I would recommend.

                      1. Glock 17 (9mm)
This is a great pistol. It offers ease of operation, no external hammer to get snagged on things, easy slide to rack, easy to clean, durable, high capacity, adequate factory sights, plenty of holster choices, a VERY easy safety system, tons of choices in ammunition, and it is very easy to get parts for.

                      2. Mossberg 590 (12ga)
This is probably my FAVORITE defensive shotgun. There isn't really a need to get too in depth. This gun is reliable, durable, and has all of the features that you could hope for.

                      3. Socom II Rifle (7.62NATO)
This is a true battle rifle. It is great for use against armored bad guys and it will penetrate reliably into vehicles and it will stop engines with multiple hits. The 7.62 round is economical and it has a great habit of turning "cover" into "concealment".

In fact, I would save my money and buy the guns in the order that I have them listed. You will never be sorry that you own any of them!

I've got a ruger .45 but if you're just lookin for some home protection I'd go with a shotgun. Or hell, just roll with somethin like this little bastard.

Glock 17 would be and is my choice, great reliable pistol. And it is a lot harder to shoot a pistol then the movies make it look like....lol lots of practice at the range
