    Re: Great Depression again?

China!?? Nobody can destroy us in a day. Did you say China?! Let me clean my glasses and check for cataracts... We crippled China in a day by lifting an eyebrow, (refer to lead paint toy issue). We would have already been "destroyed" if those communists could do that. Dude, do you know the state of China? It isn't even close to western standards. China is way behind brotha. You could have premium hillside estate over there bro...wait a minute...no you can't either. I forgot...you'll get what they give you. Everything is government controlled. They are a communist nation, and things aren't going so well and never have. China???

Look, I know our economy has issues. I never said it doesn't. But we are the strongest economy in the world, and only getting stronger. And not at a steady incline but pulling farther and farther away from the rest.

Obviously livestock farmers that grow there own feed are doing ok but the ones that need to buy there feed are in trouble.

yup, china is still communist, in 74 nixon opened relations, china needs too creat ten fiteen million jobs a year just too keep from people going into general unrest, thus when nixon stopped by they opened there doors and took any bizness anyone would give them, we've been building biz over there for over 30 years now, after 20 years these folks finally got the processes and procedures in place on how to compete in the market place and they have major advantages, a dire need for jobs and no rules except get the jobs

imho it's exactly the opposite, we've been there biggest champion, without our orders there growth drops off a cliff, and that is one of the huge problems in closed societys, the ability too change, in usa we are in constant flux, ie, change, things live and die and we do not look back for the most part, most other societys do not have this advantage

              Re: Great Depression again?

Here's my take. At 26 years old, I make 26.34 an hour. I make around 55,000-60,000 a year. Both of my vehicles are lien free. My housing is 895/mo in Phx. My utilities are sky high and I am conservative in my use of them. Between Gas/Electric I pay around 300/mo. Gas prices? Well, we are all well aware of how that affects our wallets. My wife clips coupons and shops smart. We only have around 500 bucks in credit card debt.

We live from paycheck to paycheck. Between the rising cost of groceries, gasoline, utilities....it comes close. The only thing I could do to changethat would be to get rid of things like cable TV and internet.

We live decent life, but in doing so we have nothing left to save after bills are paid. My job provides for a nice retirement so thats cool but you get the idea. We are 26 years old and have one two year old. We drive cars that are 8 -9 years old even.

I have no idea how people can even afford to pay the minimum payments on their credit cards and thier car payments etc. One bad pay period would wreck everything if I lived that way.

no idea why youre discussing communism, it is unrelated..If they dumo our dollar, were ****ed.

"Right now," he says, "we have a situation in which the US is running huge trade deficits -- about $US650 billion ($766 billion) in 2004 -- which are financed by borrowings from the central banks of Asia -- mainly the Chinese and the Japanese. All the world's central banks are chock-full of US dollars -- they're holding many more dollars than they really want. They're holding those dollars because at the moment there's no great alternative and also because the global economy depends on US consumption. If they dump the dollar and the dollar collapses, then the whole global economy is in trouble.

Solidground, all (that) that you're, for some reason, all worried about, really don't mean a thing when you boil it all the way down. Take this in; If it really came down to it, we could be fully self sefficient in every aspect. We don't really need anyone. Believe you me, if it really came down to brass tacks, I mean cut throat, that's it, rock bottom, cut 'em off at the knees,.. the good ole U.S. of A. has it covered. As long as our dollar makes purchases here in the U.S., uck 'em. I realize that might sound crazy to someone that's so concerned with how our dollar is valued in China, but it is what it is. We could have anyone we're in debt to begging us to create more debt. They'd erase debt to get us to order if we cut their head off and resourced ourselves. And best of all. Our economy would erupt even more. Our debt is how some countries put rice in their bowls. Our debt is how we negotiate better deals. We can make our own popsicle sticks, toothpicks and cheap sunglasses if we have to.

                            Re: Great Depression again?

BTW, Horse have you taken a look at the price of milk lately?

Have you noticed that everything in the grocery store has gone up dramatically in price, especially meat?

Have you noticed the ever climbing gas prices?

Have you noticed the ever climbing home energy costs?

How about the astronomical insurance rates?

Now after taking all of that into consideration anyone with any bit of financial intelligence will know that if your wages don't increase, but the cost of everything around you does......You have less money. If you have less money, you spend less money. If you spend less money, companies make less and need to start making layoffs.

It's already begun. I don't know why you don't see this! The 9/11 thing fine, but not seeing this is just plain ridiculous!

Truckers have gone from making 50k to now barely making 10k, mortgage brokers are taking a huge hit, construction industry has been devastated! Don't tell me unemployment is low! That's just numbers of people that are actually on unemployment! Do you think they go house to house and ask if you're unemployed? I know tons of people that are unemployed because of the market, and don't collect unemployment because they know they won't qualify for one reason or another. So they wouldn't be included in those statistics. Those statistics are padded!

My father in law is a foreman for a MAJOR construction company that does predominantely government projects. Not little crap, I'm talking BILLION dollar contracts! Even they had to lay off over 600 employees because where they used to be scheduled years out, they aren't even scheduled out 6 months anymore! All of the companies are taking a dive!

                            Open your eyes bro!

                              Re: Great Depression again?

DJ it's as simple as this. You're totally wrong like with anything that spews from your media spattered vocabulary..'fear mongering'..etc etc...You over emphasize everything, throwing terms you hear from your beloved whack job media all over the place. "The Great Depressioin is back."lmao... I see it's just encoded in your genes handed down straight from your grandmother to you. Everyone you know is unemployed and can't draw unemployment "for some reason"?...I got an answer, Stop hanging around losers that won't work. I could go down to the local bum hang out and make that statement too, but I happen to be surrounded by successful, gainfully employed, happy people that would laugh in your face and remind you that you're as crazy as the horse that rode you in. And that goes from corporate employees to construction workers that you seem to think you know so much about, but obviously don't, or else you'd be busy making money hand over fist like these guys are in this time of "great depression". bwahahahaha!! I thought I'd heard it all, but you can still catch me off guard and make me laugh first thing in the morning. Thanks for the laugh there guy. You can ramble on about the great depression and how the government is watching you through the eye on your laptop via MS Vista and all that craziness. I'm done trying to make a point to you. Refer to trip's posts, pigmeat's posts, bowbow's post and hard facts for more real information on the subject. Then read up on how it was in the great depression. Stop asking people that are milling around shopping malls during the day for what they think about the economy while their out buying shyt..wtf?? Or you didn't do that. You got that from your media sources as well, huh... note: change sources of information

You are the reason for the saying "Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." That's exactly what you do every 'debate' you're in. You know from first hand experience...blah blah blah...I know, I know dj... you know everything from first hand experience. You knew you were right about what make car was better than the other until you finally saw the light. I don't expect somebody that's absolutely wrong on every single subject to get it all at once or even get it all, but hopefully you see the light on some more issues before your day comes. When is your life going to get any better so you can experience some goodness? You do realize that old saying is true, that "life is what you make it." I just hope you'll let some good life in before it's too late. Go camping, go get by the water, stop poisoning your mind with all that negative garbage. Just delete that stuff from your life, or just take it way down to a minimum. Just 2 pennies worth from me to you.

                              peace, love and happiness

                                Re: Great Depression again?

one of the big issues when thinking about this stuff is not thinking the other guy has any problems

folks buy into the myth of the media, ie, right now china is the economic juggernaut taking over the world

china has lived off of cheap cheap cheap labor for 25 years, which garnerned them profits, yet, also cheap profits in commodity business's, as the proliferation and growth of these commoditie business's flourished, towns cities gave away grants for folks to build plants, they went into competition against one another, and too flourish they paid higher labor costs, right now china is so over built capacity wise it's not even funny, too many empty plants and not enough demand, all in cheap business's, ie they over built capacity, now the natives are use to high labor prices when demand is not as high, what do they do, they keep on chuggin out product supported by the government cause layoffs are unthinkable

that's one of the problems, oh, besides that thing you know, folks bidding cheap cheap cheap ass prices and then doing anything, ie, led paint to produce at a profit, ie, you lower to have no standards cause your just worried about making the next payment, not keeping existing biz, cause if u go out of biz u go 500 miles down the road to another wide open empty plant and change your name

                                everyone has prob lems, everyone
