If that's what your grips TRULY is, then you should be in favor of having government change the laws to force insurance companies to raise the rates of people who do self inflicted harm ie..smoking, heavy drinking, drugs. That would then solve the problem, while not infringing on the rights of others.
How is that going to solve anything? Seriously, all the people have to do is check the "NO" box when those questions come up. There is no way for anyone to know who does or who does not smoke or drink too much, no way at all. Therefore, this idea would never work.

Very very simple. Require a physical and doctors can tell the difference between a smoker and non smoker. They smell different, thier fingers turn yellow, their skin gets aged earlier, their teeth are more yellow, and their lungs are in bad shape. Plus I bet there are many other indicators that I'm unaware of .
So if they get a physical and are medically deemed a smoker, they then get the smoker rate. Same with drugs except they need to do a general test that tests for drugs. Alcoholics have indicators also to tell them apart from non-alcoholics.
So if they seperated the self inflicted from those that truly take care of their bodies, everyone would get what they deserve. Simple as that.
However, again anything non self inflicted should be passed along the insurance pool to you and me. That would keep from discriminating against those with genetic illnesses that they can't control, because it is genetic and not self inflicted.

Ok, but you are talking about long term smokers because I know young smokers who don't have any of those signs. As far as drinkers, there is no way to tell is someone is a compulsive drinker on the weekend or if someone will become an alcoholic later. What if I get my insurance when I don't do any of that stuff, then start it all later? Same problem. And, if everyone had to get a full physical, who's going to pay for that? The insurance company would have to and it would be rolled back into all our premiums.
Look, it's just not as simple as physicals. There are people who start these things later in life, there are people who just do it on the weekends and then it turns into excessive. There are too many ways to get through a physical at an early age and then go reckless. It's still going to cost us. And if they had regular physicals over and over, that would cost us too.
I'm telling you bro, the best thing to do is make those who choose to ruin their bodies pay so much that they think twice. The fact is, most people don't give a crap. The don't care what it does to them and they certainly don't care what it costs us. So, if they dont' care about us, or themselves, who cares if the price goes up? That's how I see it.

Actually car insurance actually works that way already.
Move to a dangerous area and watch your rates go through the roof. Move to the middle of the sticks and watch your rates plummet!
If you choose to live in a dangerous city, you pay a higher premium. If you choose to live in a safe suburb, you pay a lower premium.
Very similar to my proposed health insurance reform.
Actually, that's not completely true.
I moved from Atlanta, which has more than 4 million people in the metro area and pretty high crime, to Colorado Springs, which is just over half a million and very very very little crime, and our car insurance went up. Car insurance is actually based more on the average cost of the cars on the road. Yes, crime and other things come into play, but the average car cost is what really drives the premiums. The more expensive it is to repair cars in an area, the higher the rate. Even though this city is smaller, the average price per car is much more because of all the Land Rovers, BMW's, Mercedes, Lexus and so on. In the summers, I see Ferraris and Lotus' all the time. There is a lot of money here. But, and this is how I know this, from one of the years to the next while we lived here, the number of DUI's dropped significantly and our insurace dropped too. I aske my agent why, and he said that was the reason. Even with all the snow and ice, DUI numbers will have a larger impact on premiums than the basic accident. It's because DUI accident's usually result in much larger law suits. Think about it, the insured runs a red light, hits a car and the driver is a little injured, but the guilty party is sober. No big deal. Take the same accident, and have the guilt party drunk, the now the law suits pile up.

Whenever I see someone lighting up, I thank them. I say, "Thank you Mr./Mrs. Smoker. because of you, the government makes $50 billion per year in taxes. Which means, you pay them the real money they would be normally taking from me."
Now, realistically, if everyone in America were to quit smoking tomorrow, do you think the Government would take a $50 billion loss per year in taxes? LOL! You're a fool if you do.
Sales taxes everywhere would double. Income taxes would nearly double. To y'all smokers....... smoke away! Love ya

not their right when i have to pay there insurance premiums because they are to poor to have there own,but yet have money to buy ciggaretts How many of these duesch bags are on medicaid and welfare which i fund, yet have money to drink and smoke! They can stick those freedoms up there A S S because it harms far more people then them
People on food stamps eat better than me. I see it with my own 2 eyes. They are buying 3 and 4 London Broils and filets at a pop, then paying with food stamps. Then, they buy their cartons of generic cigarettes, go home, laugh at us working class suckers, and eat like Kings and Queens.

What do you think would happen if welfare for the physically and mentally able was completely abolished? Seriously, how many of them do you think would get off their lazy asses and go get a job? I do appraisal, as you guys know, and every once in a while I do Section 8 homes. These are homes that investors rent out to Section 8 people and the city pays most of the rent for them. All they have to pay is like $150 a month. And, this is the messed up part, the city pays the landlord more than the typical rent. Of the ones I've seen, the people are completely normal, there is nothing wrong with them. I talk to them and they seem fine. I've even asked the landlords and they say they are fine. Yet, here they are, milking the system because they are lazy phuks!

they would go to social services and tell them they are addicts, drug or alcohol, and that would qualify them for disability because it is a sickness...and then they would milk that for awhile
Too many freebies! You know, I can understand the person who needs a helping hand, but there needs to be a timeline. 12 months max! Hell, it would be cheaper if the governement would just give these people the HUD and FA repos. The government loses millions of dollars every month on these repos, and yet they still pay for these people's rents an food. They should just give them a home and say 'you pay for everything else!'. That would probably save billions.

It's funny, but people think I am a racist. I might be to a certain extent, but I don't knock foreigners who come into this country and clean up making money. We take for granted what we have. Foreigners come into this Country and see the vast cornucopia of opportunities to make millions of dollars. So we make excuses for our own ignorance. "Oh, that dot head can come here and not pay taxes for 7 years while we have to pay taxes...yada yada yada." No, it's just that some Americans are to lazy to see the opportunities, and people that were born into filth come here and say "wow, I can make a million dollars here." If someones happy having 5 kids from 5 different fathers, and collecting $219 a month from social security, than so be it. All I ask is you stay off the road during working hours and stay the phuque out of my way from doing what I want to do and making money. Unfortunately, we enable people to that. The problem with this Country is everyone is so worried about being politcally correct that they make asses of themselves. Sure, there are certain situations where unemployment and SSI come into play and are needed. Take for instance, a woman who is married to a man who makes $150k a year. She doesn't work, and has no formal skills. The husband one day drops dead at the age of 30. Now, she's 30 years old, a widow, no life insurance, and 3 kids. This guy promised her he would take care of her for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, no one knew it was going to be only until the young age of 30. In a case like that, I can see this woman needing help.
But in the case of Shaniqua, who loves to phuque, and has 5 kids from 5 daddies, and is more worried about going on Maury Povich to find out who her baby daddy is so she can collect child support(which she'll never see because her baby daddy works at Burger King for $5.75 an hour), then I say, make her get her tubes tied, send her to a trade school at the tax payers expense, and put her ass to work. It's cheaper for the taxpayers to foot the bill for a $5000 trade school than pay her SSI for the rest of her life.

Yeah you are right about that. I forgot about the cost of cars in the area part. I was just trying to show how insurance does relate to crime and non crime areas----just like health insurance should relate to healthy people and people with self inflicted sicknesses.
