Is black history month racist?

I think we have an african-american month in this country because they are just as much a part of American history as "Americans" are, (Hence the name African-American). That’s why we don't see other cultures recognized like this because they were not here etablishing America in the beginning, sure Americans were from all different cultures but they chose to float over here African-American people did not chose to. African-American culture help build this kick ass nation like it or not so they should be recognized for it.

So do to hardships of the PAST they deserve special recognition in the present? I dont own any slaves nor have i stripped anyone of their religion, so why do i have to listen about black history month when i go into a mcdonalds? Hey im all for "black history" being tought in school, just not a specially reserved month for it.

The point that I’m trying to make is that although you may not feel that it is right or just for blacks to have a month dedicated to their history because it bugs you at McDonald’s, it is significant to many blacks and it is just. And yes, the PAST is relevant in the PRESENT.

To answer your question: Yes, due to past hardships endured in America (and still endured in an insipid and not so blatant way); they do deserve a month dedicated to their history. Also, what they have endured as a people is a little more significant than a simple hardship.

I am an American Indian, although not full-blooded, and Indians have endured terrible atrocities in this country. My ancestors were literally slaughtered for their land.

We don’t have any month dedicated to our history, but I certainly would never complain about blacks having a month to recognize their history. Nor would I ever attempt to diminish the significance of their history.

Why no native indian history month... they had it just as bad as african americans..

as a white man i cant relate to african american resentment, but I can understand where it comes from. but in a quest for equality why make yourself different. I really dont have a problem with black history month, but why not dedicate other months to other races. This country is made up of a mix of all races but no others are recognized seperatly.

"african americans" of today endure nothing but special treatment today and laws passed specifically for them. No they dont deserve a month more than anyone else or recognition for being born. Pleeeeease. If they want equal rights, then they should lose the "you owe me cus my great great great great grandfather worked in the fields" attitude and work on their own accomplishments from a level plane and not boosted above everyone else because their ancestors lost a struggle for a period of time.

Call it a war if you like, but what happened to the American Indians was atrocious.

As for the plight of the Jews, there is no doubt that the holocaust was horrendous, but this conversation pertains to history in America. Also, the holocaust happened during a war, so I guess that makes it okay.
