On a way bigger scale. 9-11 stopped life in NYC for some time. This will be nation, even world wide as warm weather does not slow it like the flu. Eventually a real pandemic will hit with a HIGH death rate. It will cause MASSIVE social and economic probs that will bring the world to it's knees.
I read a lot of post apocalypse fiction about pandemics. Amazing how this feels like the first couple chapters of one of them.

it's a nightmare for older people for sure. wash your damn hands, cover your mouth when you cough and sneeze and if you are sick stay the fuck at home. we dont shut down for the regular flu and it kills far more and a larger range of people but then again it's still a new virus.
