So true. If I could do it all over again. I would have a retirement from the military and be an electrician.

kids are to stupid these days for the most part to figure this out. hell a plumber or an hvac tech makes a freaking killing too. welder and a mechanic forget about it, they can charge pretty much whatever they want reasonably

I already had the college or not discussion with vinny and he is only ten. I told him it’s fine if he decides college isn’t for him but if he doesn’t do college he has to do a trade. We will always need skilled trades. Right now he is all about becoming a soldier and I told him I definitely support that choice and the military is a great way to get an education or a trade. We showed him there are literally 100s of jobs within the military and that it’s not just about being on the front line. He has been obsessed with WWII and then WWI and now he is into the Vietnam war.

that's how it started with me ce and i followed through with my decision i made at a very young age. family thing for me as almost all the men before me had served. funny that damn near all of them were against it and they were really fired up when i decided to go the infantry route right out of the gate. i dont regret it one bit and i wouldnt have gotten dick out of college straight out of high school

i agree collage isnt for everyone. my wifes son is 19 now and he doesnt know what he wants to do. when he was 16 he told everyone he was going in the marines i laughed at him and told him i hope you like doing push ups because i forgot to do something doesnt fly there like it does here bc your momma isnt there. i told him last year collage isnt for everyone but learn a trade. i had a friend who owns a electrician company who would send him to school but he doesnt want to do that. i am friends with some guys who are high up at the local county school district who would hire him and teach him HVAC he didnt want to do that. i got him a job with a good friend of mine who owns a large landscape company he has been working there since he was 15 but trying to get him to understand you need more then that. that jobs has no benfits at all. i guess one day he was see it hopefully he's not 30 when he does..

              College isn't for everyone.
I have a trade and now 25 years behind me in it.. I would not generally tell people to go that way.. you just gotta get in where you fit in I suppose

that's how i am with the military. if a youngster talks to me about it i try to persuade them away from it. it def isnt for everyone and if you are second guessing it then dont do it

                  Re: College or no college?

Great post. I still think college will help a person succeed but it has to be a marketable degree.

A degree in "Ethnic women's studies" or "Art appreciation" are more useless than a screen door on a submarine.

these dumb ass kids wanting college debt forgiveness.....they want US to pay for their bad decision.

Doesn't matter. College, trade, military, it is what the individual makes of it. Slack and have no drive it becomes a waste of money and time. If you utilize your time, resources, and completely exploit the opportunities that present themselves, from college to military, life will improve.
