The comment about houses up in New England, yeah more expensive to build, lots of wood, but things are out of control up here. I built mine, 2 story colonial, on acre, 2 car 2 story garage, for about $165k in '93..It's worth $310 now, I have it half paid..
The thing is, if I sold it, I would be homeless, couldn't afford to build anything new again with the pricing at the moment.
They are building these new neighbor hoods around with the houses going anywhere from $450k-2.6 million.
If I sold, I'd have to move to another part of the country.

could be worst guy, in Ireland I was looking into houses.

a normal house that here in Canada cost let's say 100k cdn out there is around 600k pounds, so about 800kUS

How about making a list and checking incidentals, and initial purchases off of that? You're first several months will be the most expensive as you fill into your home - after that it's cake. But make a list on paper if you're skeered.

NYC.... in the city itself a condo of 650sqft is around $400K I live right outside in Jersey. It sucks but I also make over 100K at 26yrs old. Cant do that in florida at my age IMO to easily.
