  • core

Well I hit the big 40 a few months ago and I feel like I've literally lost my core...inside and out. Sure I have been insanely busy so cardio has been a little lacking but I need a plan and I need a plan fast! This is driving me nuts. I don't need to be shredded, I like to be solid, but I am not where I want to be currently. Anyone got any 40 and over pointers.

I was doing really well last year with yoga once a week but I have no time right now to add that in unless someone knows a good dvd or youtube channel!

    Re: core

i am right behind you on the big 40 myself man. i am able to stay consistent with my training and diet 100% though. what i have heard and read that you can do instead of doing direct core work is to practice bracing. it will keep it both in shape strong and protect it as well. google up some clint darden videos on the technique. dude is smart as hell

      Re: core

I brace on lifts it helps my lower back and keeps me in form. Gotta breath right tho or I'd pass out. Planking for a time then trying to beat that time has helped my abs, obliques, and lower back as well. It's harder than it looks if you do it right.

        Re: core

I am 48. Just have to make time to get to the gym and cardio is cumulative. So if you hit the weights and you need to leave just do 10 minutes of high intensity cardio. say get on the elliptical and do 1 minute sprints with 30 second rests. start with the resistance high. you will have to adjust it easier as you go after the 2-3rd rep.

this burns as many calories as 45 minutes at a steady pace and really gets the heart rate up. I also found cheating on my diet is not as easy as my 30s. I need to eat clean more now just to maintain. Good luck man, getting old is inevitable but staying in shape is our choice.

i freaking hate cardio but i am with you on this one. it also makes it 10x faster to get into cardio shape as well. so you get a double plus with the intervals

I'm racing up on 40s ass myself. Still a few to go till I'm there, but seems like it comes faster and faster every year. Core is a lacking point for me too so I'm taking notes here as well.
