  • Squats and the knees

Ive been doing deep squats since I was 12 and I dont havbe any knee problems. Maybe thats from all the squatting
The idea that below-parallel squats are bad for the knees is complete nonsense which, for some reason that escapes me, will not go away. This mythology is mindlessly repeated by orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, registered nurses, personal trainers, dieticians, sportscasters, librarians, lunch-room monitors, and many other people in positions of authority with no actual knowledge of the topic, and therefore no basis in fact for their opinion.

Man , I think I hurt my right knee doing deep squats , so all I do now is tolerable weight , and increased reps 15-20 , until the lactic acid builds so much that I can't stand it . My knee still hurts tho , I think I may have tendon issues

        Great read!

Same here, deep squats for me too. My thought process has always been right in line with this article. Shallow squats leave out a lot of the hamstring and hips, causing a lot more strain on the knees. I see so many people in the gym squatting, not only shallow, but completely wrong with horrible form. That's where the stigma that squats are bad comes in. I've heard so many different athletes from different sports talk about how squatting tore their knees up. No... bad form, too much weight and squatting incorrectly tore their knees up.
