  • Trying something new!!

So, as many of you know I am a DC Disciple, training DC since 2001. It has done everything that I could ask and more, and took me to 300 pounds plus with still a hint of abs. I have learned about diet, dedication, sacrifice and pushing past physical and mental barriers that I never thought I could. I want to thank Dante Trudel, you are the man in my book as far as training is concerned. Your word is gospel to me, thank you my Brother.

With that being said, I am now 52 years old and years of lifting heavy slag iron have taken their toll on my joints and ligaments. I am physically a wreck, massage and taking care of myself are just not enough these days. I need a change.

I am a student of this game, I read and absorb. I test on myself and do many things behind the scenes that I never talk about. But I also look at what others have done and accomplished and recognize someone who talks the talk but also walks the walk. Someone here over my time here that has earned my respect is guns01. The guy knows his stuff, he is smart and he knows that diet is the key. The difference between us is I am low volume and heavy weights and he is a high volume guy. But I reached out and asked him for some advice and help with a high volume approach and I received more then I could ever ask. I got not only advice, but a complete 4 day routine laid out for me. Guns01, thank you for doing that, it means the world to me.

So starting Monday the 19th, I am going to train high volume based on his advice. I may even start a log but I wanted to post this to do two things. One is to give huge props to guns01 and the second is to let people know that even an old dog can learn new tricks. I will post up how things are going and answer questions on the differences between the two styles if anyone has them.

It is pretty thick, you'd think after all the gear I'd be bald. LOL

                  Re: Trying something new!!

Ok, being an absolute hardhead I went to the gym this morning and did shoulders and traps as guns01 laid out. I dropped my weights what I thought was appropriate for the higher rep scheme, boy did I **** that up. I thought I had calculated correct, I was SO wrong. This workout absolutely kicked my ass, my weight used for side laterals for example was about 30% of what my normal working weight is for my last set. Doing 5-6 sets of reps ranging from 20-12 and then a 20 rep set at the end wiped me out. I made it, but not before expressing my hatred for guns01 (not really, but it was close)

Going from DC to high reps is so odd, but I liked it a lot and felt great about an hour or so after having my post workout meal. Gun01, you evil genius, thank you!!

I'm about 285-290 right now, doing a little cardio. I know winter is for bulking but damn if I wasn't happier about 265-270. And you'll make 52 easy, my goal is 102!!

I can only imagine leg days. A 20 rep widow maker is bad enough, but this is all widows where I came from LOL!!

So are you still using a log? And is your new lifting designed around constant progression? Just wondering, when/if I switch from DC I think those disciplines should carry over As well as extreme stretching. The sets and reps can change but those items are what I like best about DC. I love looking at my log and knowing what I have to beat. It psychs me up.

I will always use a logbook, it's ingrained in me to do so. I am looking for constant progression and if there is no progress at some point I'll do what I've always done and that's switch out exercises or cruise for a week.

after 3 weeks or so i am going to send you some nasty tweaks on the training so you dont stall out. your body will never adapt to what i do to it. never going to happen
