  • Flex Lewis Retiring

Just saw Flex Lewis saying he was retiring. I think it's great that he's putting his health, family and life first. It's bitter/sweet for me since I was really looking forward to seeing him compete in the open. Especially if Derek Lunsford decides to do the open as well. It would have been insane seeing him up there next to Derek, Nick, Ramy, Hunter and the other open guys. But, that's just the fan in me talking. I'm glad he's taking steps toward health and family.

yeah i was as well and it sucks to see the good ones go out early. idk if it is so much health issues as it was injury issues. if i am not mistaken he kept getting hurt last year. so maybe he figured out his body had had enough and didnt want to go out with a package that had tears and stuff that were noticable. who knows, these guys are pretty secretive about why they shut it down early most of the time.
not to mention he gets to go out on top as well

Going out on top is great for him. If he's getting injured a lot and knows he won't be able to be at his best, then it's probably better to be remembered for being the greatest versus the guy that "tried to come back" and couldn't quite make it. Knowing that he was going to be in the open class, he would have to be at his absolute best and that may not have been possible if he was injured. I think you're right. Smart move on his part if that's the case.
