MA is right, Foam rolling is great and make sure you roll out the IT band along the side of the leg from the hip to the knee. Hurst like hell but if it is tight, this tendon causes lots of knee pain. many runners and tight It bands. Suck it up and roll them out,lol

Iliotibial band syndrome causes symptoms such as knee pain, hip pain, and tenderness when walking, running, or using stairs. Learn about treatment and prevention.

I had hip surgery 5 years ago and learned a hell of a lot beforehand. Check this out it is some great info

It makes all the difference in the world...the foam roller has become my new couch when watching TV, I use that time for stretching, rolling, inversion table time, and keeping the IT band loose. As a matter of fact my IT band was giving me hell up into my competition, hard time walking and keeping posture straight for posing, and like Baby said it had to do with being dehydrated prior to prejudging so drink plenty of water or even coconut water...love that stuff!!! It will hurt...but better than living with the pain.

Damn girl...so young??? You must have been beating the hell out of them or ??? My mom had both replaced in last three years, although she would not listen to me or the PT professionals about the stretching and exercises she needed to do after the surgery, she claims to still be in pain and doesn't walk right...so MM and everyone...STRETCH even if it hurts!!!

Honestly, as long as I foam roll, I don't even need to stretch. remember there is such a thing as over stretching also
