  • Eddie Hall and Hafthor Feud

I've been following the Eddie Hall and Hafthor feud lately. Apparently Hafthor is going to attempt to break Eddie Hall's deadlift record of 500kg (1,100lbs) by 1kg. His attempt will be 501kg, but he's not doing it in competition setting since there aren't any going on for the time being. Instead, he's going to attempt it at his home gym. Eddie is totally against that, saying that all records should be done in a legit competition setting.

What do you think? I kinda agree with Eddie. I mean there's no official there to legally call the lift. Do you think breaking a record outside of a competition setting is official?

I’ve been watching this as well. I like them both and I do understand why Eddie would be Leary to believe that it was legit and that it’s in his own gym that judges could give him a more favorable ruling.

On the other hand I like Eddie and Brian Shaw’s friendship. Their talk about doing a bodybuilding show between themselves is great

Yeah I'm a big fan of Eddie and Brian. Those two are hilarious. I saw a clip of Brian and Robert Oberst talking about it too. Oberst was basically telling Hafthor not to do it. Basically saying now isn't the time.

Just heard an update that the record breaking attempt at his home gym is actually going to be streamed live on ESPN. That's a huge move for the powerlifting world.

I’m happy to hear ESPN will stream it BUT it shouldn’t count as a world record if he gets it. IMO Eddie did it at a contest with judges. Hafthor should too. Too easy to cheat doing it the way it is.

I guess there have been a lot of people hating that he was only going to break Eddie's record by 1kg, so he's released a video saying he is now going to pull 520kg. That's 1,146lbs! That's gonna be crazy to see.

That is epic shit! BUT I still think he should have to do it at a competition like Eddie did. I gotta see this. When is it going to be on?

Supposed to be happening on May 2nd.

I agree, I think he should have to do it at a competition for it to count, but it's going to be crazy to watch if he actually does pull it. If he does pull it and break Eddie's record, I wonder if Eddie will come out of retirement and attempt to take it back.

When I was a teenager I had the world-record for bench press beat in under 21s. My name's not in the records and generally nobody probably believes me when I say it because I didn't do this at a competition. So should this count just because he's a celebrity? Nah. He's lost his mind if he thinks otherwise.

A friend of mine beat Ed Coan's record. Same weight but beat hs deadlift number, but since it wasnt "offical" it didnt count. He had it on video and everything lol Rules are rules so Thor needs to do this in a meet.

Exactly. The fact that he's making such a big deal out of it makes me think he probably doesn't think he could do it again in comp setting which says a lot!

Yeah doing this in a competition setting is a whole different ballgame. I went back and watched Eddie when he pulled 500kg and I can't even imagine the nerves and pressure with all those people watching and hollering. That's got to do a number on your focus, which could be positive or negative depending on the person. Doing it in a quiet private setting just doesn't seem like it would carry the same nerves, or anywhere near the same pressure. That's definitely going to have an effect on your lift.

I'd rather have the crowd behind me, screaming and cheering. That is what I loved most about competing in bodybuilding, the fans going crazy and cheering you on. Gets ya hyped as fuck lol
