Anyone use one of these, or know anyone that does? I'm taking a sleep study and may have to get one here in the near future. I've read some say it's given them the best sleep they've ever had, but i just don't see how it can be comfortable hooked up to it all night long?

everyone i know swears by them. that is after they get used to it. cool thing is if you actually do have apnea it will increase all the good muscle building hormones help with fat burning and cut your risk of sudden death significantly. i have been waiting on a ref for a study for over a year. my insurance is a huge pain in the ass

Would seem that wearing one might be good for everybody. If it helps you get better sleep, then why arent they marketing these things to everybody?
How much do they cost? If its a medical device then I bet theyrre expensive, they keep the cost sky high so they can rip off medicaid

I have severe obstructive sleep apnea and I have been using a cpap for 7 years. It will take time to get used to having a mask on your face when you sleep and to find the type of mask that is right for you. When you get used to it, your quality of sleep will improve, your will be more rested, and you will be able to sleep longer. I have become dependent on mine so i take "pap naps" and I can't crash anywhere unless i bring my Vader machine.

man they are stupid crazy expensive. i really wouldnt see any benefit to use one if you dont have anpnea because your normal sleep shouldnt be disturbed by you not breathing. that and your normal oxygen levels shouldnt be dropping either

insurance covered my machine. Some insurances require you send in a memory card that inserts into the machine that records your usage and others machines have data uploaded wirelessly to your doctor.

Call your insurance ask what your the coverage is on "Medical Devices" such as CPAPs. Medical devices have their own set of coverage. If you want your medical device (cpap) to be covered and have replacement parts (masks, tubing, filters, etc) sent to you on the regular to be covered as well insurance needs to be convinced that your sleep apnea is "negatively affecting quality of life and health" and it is a "medical necessity." This is what insurances look for when it comes to coverage when reviewing a claim. We as men down play our pain but if you want coverage you must suck it up and put your man card aside for a bit otherwise you will be paying in the $1,000's for a cpap.

man i have retired military insurance and it pretty much covers everything under the sun. the only problem is getting ref approved for specialty care. it used to happen over night form me but since the aca took effect it is like pulling teeth to get stuff done. the current doc i have is pretty much lazy and useless, i am a little to blame because i dont ride their ass either. i do need to get on it though and get it done.

i am in the same boat as bigdawg. if you have sleep apnea you will thank yourself later getting on their asses now for a cpap. its not just better sleep you will get but a happy heart as well.

Thanks for all the replies!! My insurance should cover mine as well. I'm about to go through the sleep study to see if it's something I even need. I'm almost positive I will. I snore like a chainsaw cutting down a forest and I wake up occasionally not feeling like I've been breathing. Catch myself taking a huge gasp. They're giving me a machine I'll have to bring home and hook up to while I sleep that will gather all sorts of data. Once they get that info, they'll give me a report and let me know if the CPAP is something I'll need or not. I'm always tired during the day, so if it turns out that I do need to get one, I'm glad to know it helps tremendously.
