med weaning question

Ok now I know what I 'should" do but that doesn't mean I will do it, lol. I want to get off this seizure med I take because I feel like I do not need it anymore. I mentioned it to my doc, and of course he thinks I need it. The pharmacy changed the manufacturer they use and now this one doesn't like me, my tongue swells. Walgreens doesn't carry the other one either. So now this is even more of a reason to wean off. This is a seizure med for partial seizures I was getting. It also helps my migraines but that isn't why I am on it. Has anyone weaned off an anti seizure med? If so, did you end up back on it or experience effects when weaning? I am looking for your experience with weaning off, if you have ever taken an epileptic med.

Baby I can't remember the details right now, but my mother had seizures for years. I will ask her about her meds later and see what she says. She had differnt kinds grand mal and petit mal ones both.

lol, you do not know me. I have helped myself over the years more than any doc has. I have little faith in the medical field but I like my neurologist and I will get him to agree with me when see him next week

I have to agree with you. My surgeons were good other than that, I've always had to tell them whats wrong with me and help me, or they end up seeing i was right eventually.

I know it is not real smart to do this without him monitoring, but I just wanted to hear if anyone has weaned off of these and how it went.

Ok kepra 500mg 3x ed is what mom took at first, and they weaned her down by half a pill a month until she was off it.

But I didn't realize that it was lupus that she has been diagnosed with recently that what had actually been causeing her seizures.

But I don't know what causes yours and if this helps any at all. I wish I knew more to tell you baby. I hope it gets better.

Np I like helping especially the boss lady.

I do know with mom, she used to be such a stressed, anxious person and during those times her seizures got alot worse. I believe stress in the mind and body would bring that on more at lest for her. She still has lupus of course but hasnt had a seizures in at least 2 years with no meds of those kind.

i didnt take the gabapentin for seizures baby1 but they had to ease me back off it to prevent seizers. all they did for mine was to cut the dose in half each week down to zero. they are currently experimenting on me and my meds as of today damn it. so i get to try a whole new round of garbage. that is after i read all the warnings and side effects if i decide to suck it up or take it

I had taken my self of my seizure Meds and 5 months later I had a seizure.
To top it off Loss of driving privileges
Ask your doctor to put you on another med.
The Meds I was on made me nuts. I had some guy pull out I front do me while driving .
I followed him to his house and had a few thing to say to him .
The. Another day a guy was on our ass while coming home
He flipped me the bird . About 2 blocks later we stop at a red light
He pulls next to us he called me out .
I jump out of the car he tried to get out of his I slam the door on his leg
He pulls a knife on me i punch him in the face he dropped the knife again he try's to get out
Slam the door again on his ankle I think I broke it.
Then I said to him Have a nice day young man we drove away .
So much not like me.
On different Meds now and no problem

thanks for the info. I want to get off this med so I don't want a different one. If I decide different I will stay on this one. It hasn't had a whole lot of side effects but I feel like I do not need it

Yes I got off my meds for the my seizures. I had damaged brain tissue and believed that cause my problem. I was on lots of pain killers and antidepressants also. TRT helped me get off at least 6 different drugs that cost me 300 bucks a month. I told the doctor I was done with take these meds and he laughed at me and said good luck it will never happen. Been 7 years now and I feel better because I am not all drugged up. Yes I came off them slow changed life style and sups. You need to look inside yourself the whole time.
